I’ve watched for awhile now I don’t usually comment but I felt the need to say. I’m amazed the wealth of knowledge,Hes forgot more than most people will ever know. And the best part is he takes the time to show the right way/why he does what he does on every video.As a younger guy in the trade this is exactly who you look up too

Man that is one sweet Cummins! This video was long but it brought back memories of younger years, some of which I had forgotten. You need to give your talented helper a raise....or at least a hug! Just make sure she puts some rocks in her pockets the next time you have her stand on the rocker boxes, LOL! Great job my friend! Cheers Terry

That’s a Night and Day difference on the Cummins. It runs so much smoother than it did before. This is a very detailed video of how to. Love the work you do.

Just an FYI when tightening the rocker shaft up it's best to tighten both sides at the same time. I put an Allen in a vise balance the rocker box on it and tighten up the other side with another Allen. This gets both sides tight and also prevents you from snapping off the oiling set screw, ask me how I know. 17:30

hard believe a 70lb ft of torque could break that hardened pin. wonder if someone used an impact on them before. i have never broken one.
@gregolson1824
@gregolson1824 11 ай бұрын
@@j.c.smithprojects I'm sure an impact would do some damage. After having one break on me, could have been cracked already, and finding multiple snapped off ones. I've decided it's best, for me at least, to take them apart and put them back together with two Allens. A little piece of mind for myself I guess, it a really PITA to get the rocker shaft out with the tip of the set screw snapped off in it.

Did you see all the N14 oil pumps with excessive end clearences right out of the box on jpaydirts channel. He finally took a new pump to a machine shop and had the housing lapped to reduce end clearance to 0.005" from 0.008" and greatly improved his oil pressure. 0.008 is max on a worn out pump. Yet brand new pumps come there. Somebody in a different video. Spun the pump with oil in it. The oil flowed back thru the pump instantly as soon as he stopped turning the drive.

i watched jeffs video. its like everything else made today.....crap. this system is designed to run 35 to 45psi. we had 42 psi on the dash gauge. i put an oil filled manual gauge on the pump and it showed 47 psi at 160 degrees. i think its ok. however, i will be rebuilding the old pump for another big cam and it will be much tighter tolerance.

Great video, I was hoping to see the rocker boxes going on. We're installing the rocker boxes on our big cam 4 and if you get the pushrods in the adjusters correctly, some of them hold the rocker box up. Do you have to draw the boxes down with the bolts at some point? Or is there a spot on the cam that gives enough lash on all 6 pushrods that the box will sit down flat on the head? Edit: Your note at 23:44 seems to say no, you should be able to get the rocker box on flat. We backed out the adjusters enough that the pushrod cup was pushing on the arm itself and it still wouldn't go flat. We checked that the pushrods are in the cup of the cam followers. I'm a little perplexed at the moment.

you should be able to back the adjusters off and get the boxes sitting flat. if not, i would check your push tubes. they are either not in the cup of the roller or the wrong ones in the wrong place. injector push tubes are different from valve push tubes.

I’m currently changing my BC3 over from a Cummins 3024365 Show needing The governor Short coupler sleeve 199358 (or cut mine down) Compressor manifold, or air inlet tube (sn3711ab) are these numbers and parts correct for what you needed to switch?

We have a Cummins L10 non STC internal balanced that we have to adjust valves and injectors would it be the same procedure as the 855 other than one head compared to the 3. Were not finding much info on the L10 non STC.

i have a oil leak under my rocker cover box , number 1&2 , what i’m worried is can i make a gasket with the gasket material? i ordered a gasket but it wasn’t the right gasket my trouble with ordering stuff is my ID tag is missing so i don’t know the CPL and all the information the tag had , and i’m wondering how to replace the o rings in the end caps of the rocker box also mine do not screw in i guess i will have to punch them out? the rocker box did not leak until i replaced the water pump my help forgot to tighten the two bolts on the plate but when i did tighten them one side stop leaking but the lowest side on the slated engine didn’t ! i dont see how it ruined gasket with the bolts not being tightened

the engine serial number is usually stamped on the driver side rear right below the top of the deck on a machine flat spot.

This is a lost art. The way your doing the injectors is the way i was taught years ago my a old man for the big cams. Most don't realize you gotta go around twice to get all of the vavles an injectors.
