The Chunchana Katte, Cattle Festival has enthusiastically kicked off in the KR Nagar Taluk, the rice granary of Mysuru district. Renowned for showcasing high-quality breeds of cows, the fair is characterized by vibrant festivities.
The Chunchan Katte fair, held post-harvest, stands as one of the most celebrated cattle fairs in South India. It attracts participants not only from the Mysore district but also from Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Tumkur, Kolar, Kodagu, and various other districts. During this event, people flock to the market to sell their cattle, turning Chunchanakatta into a bustling hub.
The fair enjoys a stellar reputation within Karnataka and beyond its borders. Farmers from distant districts, such as Gadag, Hubli, Dharwad, Gulbarga, Vijapur, and Davangere, as well as from other parts of the country, including Andhra, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, converge here. The anticipation for lucrative business opportunities is palpable among the farmers participating in the fair.
This year, favourable weather conditions, marked by abundant rainfall and water availability in the canal, have contributed to the prosperity of farmers who have cultivated various crops, including a substantial quantity of paddy. In addition to reaping profits from agriculture, farmers also find lucrative opportunities in buying and selling cows, making the fair an ideal platform for acquiring high-quality cattle.
