Black America’s special captures the details, ingenuity, and the history surrounding the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Viewers will learn more about what went into creating the space that some are calling a gift to the country and a dream come true.
Black America is an in-depth conversation that explores what it means to be Black in America. The show profiles Black activists, academics, business leaders, sports figures, elected officials, artists and writers to gauge this experience in a time of both turbulence and breakthroughs.
Black America is hosted by Carol Jenkins, Emmy award winning New York City journalist, and founding president of The Women's Media Center.

I first visited this awesome museum in 2017. And I will visit again in 2024. There is so much to see, learn, process and feel. I feel such love and gratitude for our people and all we’ve overcome. Got emotional watching this journey of the museum, people and the ones in the past that endured a life worst than cattle. There were white monsters that didn’t feel an ounce of humanity! I also appreciate that there were some humane white men that made the dream of white people come through. For the abolishing of slavery and discrimination and also for making this museum happen.

The failure to include the fact that the vast majority of the Africans kidnapped from the westernmost coast of Africa (around 1619) were Muslim is an egregious oversight. Sylviane Diouf in her book SERVANTS OF ALLAH documents the fact that some 65% of the Africans brought to America's shores followed a religion called Islam. And, everyone deserves to know the TRULY glorious ancestral history of Americans of African descent as it relates to Islam. At the entrance of the museum is a placard bearing a quote from historian John Hope Franklin, it reads: "We've got to tell the unvarnished truth." I agree.
