Should have been like, "Dirt is actually the decay of planets and animals largely broken down by fungi and bacteria. Fungi have hyphae that can travel incredibly far and this is how fungi reproduce, etc." If you sell that cup of dirt hard enough you could probably show you understand science way better than the other kids.

I once had to work on a Physics Capstone project when I was in college. While it was still early in the school year, I jokingly told my professor that I was already finished and I showed him a stone with a bottle cap taped to it. He then said "It needs to be a PHYSICS Capstone project". I replied by saying "Well, I can explain the physics of the adhesiveness of the tape overcoming gravitational forces to keep the cap on the stone". Don't worry. That wasn't my actual final project. For my real project, I actually worked on putting together a script for a planetarium presentation on space storms.
