you're probably a good pianist but playing this song solo on a piano doesn't really do justice to the original where the notes are stretched longer. Your version basically sounds like an attempt to 1:1 it without thinking how to make it sound good on the piano. (yeah, everyone just says how great it is but they always do it with fanmade music of all video games. I hope you can also gain something from this constructive criticism...)

Thanks for the constructive criticism; I do appreciate it and am willing to discuss musical arrangement philosophies! Just one thing first, before I go into discussing what I feel about piano arrangements: I'm not sure where you're referring to when you say "the notes are stretched longer" in the original piece. As a Latin-style piece, I'd say the catchy staccato rhythm is its most distinctive feature! I do attempt to hold out the longer trumpet parts (sometimes using trills/pedals), but otherwise, I feel that most notes are short in the original... Could you clarify which points you're referring to, in particular? Now, for my arrangements... When I arrange music for the piano, my approach is usually, in order of priority: 1) be as musically faithful as possible to the original and 2) if that's not possible in some cases, attempt to bring the "feeling" of the original song. So I think your analysis of "an attempt to 1:1" is quite accurate. When I arrange pieces, I don't intend for them to be some "re-interpretation" or "rearrangements" made for the piano. I'm generally uninterested in that, and it's absolutely not what I'm going for. Instead, I take a very conservative approach, attempting to replicate as much as possible the original track's sound and feel with the piano. The reason I take such an approach is because I absolutely love the ample possibilities that the piano offers. Being able to play multiple notes, simultaneously or sequentially, from an extremely wide range of sounds, playing some as staccato and others at legato... I find it incredibly beautiful. Unlike other instruments, one player can sound like practically anything and everything. That's what I aim for in my arrangements. What I highly dislike about many modern piano arrangements is that a lot of them share such a similar, usually-mellow style. As a result, you have this "modern piano style" as a genre, per se. It's as if the piano is played as just "one instrument," just like one guitar, one violin, or one clarinet. While it is indeed one instrument in a literal sense, it's such a waste to not use the potential sound of a whole ensemble, a whole band, or even a whole orchestra that it gives to the player. I find that many piano cover players tend to avoid this golden opportunity. That's it for me; I'd love to hear any additional thoughts and comments that you have!
