As Slovenian I must tell you this: It was exactly the plan of our coach Matjaž Kek to get this draw, they wanted also to be on 3rd Place to get a place in the R16, which they reached. Because England now will get the Netherlands, while Denmark as 2nd getting Germany now. But Slovenia as 3rd now plays vs. Portugal (which we beat 2:0 in March) or the group winner of Belgium-Romania-Ukraine-Slovakia, where myself I fear just Belgium. That's why our team played in the 2nd Halftime "Cattenaccio". Btw your dad was right, my biggest fear was really Slovenia scoring too early, because it would wake up England and they destroy us then. Now for us Slovenians it means soooo much to survive first time the group stage, like you have seen how they celebrated this draw. And this on our national holiday (25th June is Independence Day for us). Greetings from Slovenia and good luck for England in the knockout-stage 😊

Slovenia are 57th on the FIFA rankings, and have never qualified for the knockouts in a major tournament in their entire history. They qualified by finishing third (something that in previous tournaments would have seen them have to play another knockout game to go through) by a 0-0 draw. It's hardly going out on much of a limb to say they're not a great team. Congrats to their fans, I'm happy for them and it must be a great feeling to reach the knockouts for the first time. The most important thing is the performance at the Euro 2024 and criticism of the English style of play is definitely justified. How the German team has performed in recent tournaments is irrelevant and they are currently playing much more attractive football than England
