Static weight of the spool is not exactly the dimensions that influences casting behavior. But it’s easy to measure and correlated to the other one. What you really want to optimize is the rotational inertia moment. The inertia behavior of a rotating coil is described by the inertia moment (also torque or mass inertia moment). The moment of inertia indicates how strongly a body resists an acceleration of rotation around an axis due to its mass distribution. The unit of the moment of inertia is kg·m² (kilograms by square meters). It depends on both the mass of the coil and the distribution of this mass around the axis of rotation. The greater the moment of inertia, the more torque (in Newton meters) is required to accelerate or slow down the coil. That means two spools of 9g are not the same. The one that has less mass at the largest diameter while having the same total mass will spin up faster and stop faster. That’s a plus’s for the Daiwa spool because it is drilled out more at the largest diameter Anasta cup that interact was the braking system has a smaller diameter so mass of that cup will have a smaller inference on the rotational inertia moment. I agree measuring it is possible but a bit more effort than weighing the parts. However you should notice it in casting and if not well then it doesn’t matter anyways because the effect is too small. Maybe some finds it interesting, if not don’t study physics, engineering or anything like that.

Yeah, alot of people get bfs confused with micro fishing...so not true. We have a local 25 acre pond in the city, and needless to say it gets a ton of pressure. Those fish have seen about every imaginable bait daily. Anyhow, my largest fish out of there this year were both over 5 lbs, and were caught on a mini hair jig, pre spawn. Noone was catching bass at that time, but when I went with the BFS and mini hair jig, it was on! I did my best to hide what I was using when people came over to watch me land the fish I was catching...lol. I had never really considered it a "new system" but I was using a light action baitcast rod and a Shimano Calais with 6 lb test almost 20 yrs ago. (I realize that is not true bait finesse, but real best reels didn't exist then) Guess I should have done a YT channel about it...lol, who knew?!?!

Idk bait finese is limited. I try to use them for everything but I recently found out why they aren't more popular. I wanted to test the kastking zephyr out on bigger fish so I caught a 22lb carp and I couldn't stop him. he literally ran all my line off. I had the drag maxed out and ended up having to use my thumb to stop the spool from spinning. So I mean if your gonna stick to 7 or 8lb fish and smaller then yes I think they will take over for that but thats what they are limited to. Smaller fish. Small to medium trout and small to medium bass.
@RockyPondProductions3 жыл бұрын

Nice vid! I have a Zephyr as well as an Aldebaran BFS and love them both. But I like variety and am considering this Curado BFS but I'm almost in the doghouse already so for my newest BFS rod, the Dobyns UF 740, am I doing an injustice by putting a Zephyr vs giving it respect with a Curado BFS? To compare the Curado.BFS with a Pixy when stating Shimano did it right is not that honest. Daiwa launched the Alphas Air Gen 1 before Shimano went with the Scorpion BFS. Both reels where about the same price (Daiwa was a tad more expensive but anyways near the 200 $). The Scorpion was strictly JDM, the Alphas Air Gen 1 not. Later on, Shimano launched the Aldebaran BFS which is a great reel, but as well quite expensive. So the first commonly available BFS reel which didn‘t brake the bank was the Alphas Air Gen 1. Daiwa launched their newest models Alphas Air TW and Steez Air TW and Shimano launched the SLX BFS and Curado BFS, aiming more for a lower price. I have all of the mentioned reels and from my perspective, tha Alphas Air Gen 1 was the real Trendsetter and did it right. I am no Daiwa Fanboy, nor am I a Shimano Fanboy. I just appreciate both companies for enriching the fishing market with outstanding technology. But this video is a little bit too much towards Shimano (as most of your comparisons by the way) and a more neutral Statement should go towards Daiwa regarding their launch of the Alphas Gen 1. In my opinion, the Alphas Air TW is currently the best bang for the buck and outcasts the Curado towards the lower end of lure weights. Although more expensive, I would always recommend the ALPHAS Air TW over the Curado BFS. Anyway, the Curado BFS is a very decent reel, nothing to complain about…..
@THEREELTEST3 жыл бұрын
1. Does it appear that I care about being "neutral"? 2. Shimano DID IT RIGHT, DAIWA DID NOT. Deal with it. Few people IN AMERICA will pay $500 for a reel, let alone a shallow spooled reel. People IN AMERICA will pay $190 for a a shallow spool reel with the Curado name because its long history and reputation here IN AMERICA. And by making it more affordable BFS will grow. 3. Did Daiwa USA officially release the Alphas Air Gen 1 HERE IN AMERICA? No. TW did import some but they were close to $300 but not officially released by DAIWA USA. TW was the only shop that sold them. 4. Do you really think Shimano was trying to compete with the Alphas Air TW with the Curado BFS? The 2 reels are over $100 apart in price. The mere fact you tried to compare the 2 reels shows you ARE a Daiwa fanboy. 5. I suggest you listen better and think before typing out long paragraphs of nonsense trying to appear clever and knowledgeable in my comments section.
