Why does this only happen with "ethnic" sounding names? Being named Joseph is still normal, but somehow Adolf is not?
@DrunkenCoward14 жыл бұрын
It was a very common name. It comes from the nordic word "Adalwolf", which meant "noble wolf". Was shortened to "Adolf" over time. I mean, before Adolf Hitler was a crazy genocidal maniac he was a child with the first name "Adolf". It's not like you give your children names based on what they're gonna be at some point. So yea, Adolf, Adolph or Adolphus (though that one is somewhat older) were pretty common back then.

@@GenericProtagonist7 i think it has to do with Joseph being a biblical name, just a guess tho, then again there is no stigmata associated with Paul. What he said at the end reminded me of something. When I was backpacking around Turkey a guy offered me and my girlfriend a job. There was a main street with all these outdoor restaurants. We'd dress up a little nice and sit outside by the menu. When people walked up we'd say we say to people how great the place was and we'd tried other place or whatever and people would come in. Once another couple had come in then more would just pick it. Soon the outside would be completely full and all the other places totally empty. It worked every night. So I got paid plus free food and drink just to sit there and act like it was great. Pretty good job.

Count Dankula (a hilarious former-communist Scottish comedian) actually got in trouble for teaching his pug to imitate a Nazi in response to offensive Nazi-style statements. He did it to wind his girlfriend up, because she thought the dog was cute, posted the video, laughing all the while. Then he went to Iceland for a drinking weekend with his mates, only to receive a call from his then girlfriend (now wife) saying that his video had gone viral and there were police at the door. Funniest thing is, no one ever actually complained to the police about the video - the police found the video and then took it to a group of Scottish Jews so that they could get on record someone saying it was offensive. It's part of a larger anti 'hate speech' initiative the UK police are involved in and heavily criticised for (they appear to be more interested in furnishing a politically correct image as opposed to actually dealing with the knife and acid attacks now rampant throughout the UK's cities). Another funny side-effect of this grand ordeal, which resulted in Count Dankula being fined £800 so that the Courts could save face (even though forensics went through his digital history and found literally zero evidence of him having any Nazi leanings - in fact quite the opposite, as the man has a Communist star tattooed on his chest), is that Count Dankula now has a dedicated following on KZbin, making a comfortable living, much celebrated for his ongoing 'Mad Lads' series. The police tried to make a point by wrenching from context his words (the Judge literally said 'Context doesn't matter', as insane as that sounds, especially with re: to comedy) and instead simultaneously made him unemployable in any mundane profession/famous as a KZbinr. I wonder whether Larry David has ever heard about the case. Given his own edgy humour, I wonder whether he'd get it and laugh. Hardly worse than that Fatwa after all x'D
@D4n1t0o4 жыл бұрын
@Harold King Yep, that's one of the "offensive Nazi-style statements" I mentioned.
@D4n1t0o4 жыл бұрын
@Harold King Surely you're kidding? The phrases used to train the dog were the instigating evidence. The only evidence, provided one wrenches them from their proper context and intention. The digital forensics team was looking through his online, legal and personal past to see whether there was ratifying evidence, sincere sentiment behind the words, suggesting these phrases were being employed for nefarious means, or whether he truly was telling an edgy joke in the gallows humour tradition of working-class British shock humour. The lack of ratifying evidence suggested that the phrases were employed for the claimed purpose of humour and successfully, if one keeps in mind this video went viral and met plaudits online previous to law enforcement's intrusive, gestapo-esque self-involvement. TL;dr: the phrase you just mentioned can't be considered evidence of sincere Nazi sentiment, as it was what was being investigated, meaning it had to be backed up by its own evidence, proving its intention and contextual meaning. This was not done, despite the best efforts of the Scottish Forensics Team, yet the Sheriff still prosecuted to save face in the media. The furore the police created having gotten too big to result in media amplified 'failure'.
