They're awesome! Hoping more people start to notice them in the stores this year.

This video brought me to your channel, I'm loving it! I've been doing lots of YT research, as well as written resesrch on Turmeric bcuz I've just started growing it this year. I thought I would pass along something others have speculated on with the little "balls" hanging below the tubers. Most people think those are where the plant stores water. In which case, it would make sense that yours have begun to shrivel up after being out of the soil for a while. Also, those balls don't grow any roots. Which shows they're simply a storage for the roots to access. Usually the Tuber portion of the root is where the carbohydrates (or plant food) is stored, I believe. (But hey, I'm no scientist!) At any rate, I haven't found anyone who has had the root parts officially tested, so this is just all hearsay I suppose! I just thought I would share that lil' bit of info. I look forward to seeing how your storage works out! I'm in Central Texas, zone 8a. And while we sometimes get an inch of snow, it does drop to freezing on and off during the Winter. In between the cold spells, we can have daytimes getting up as high as 90° sometimes. So - not a full time cold season like yours. As well as temps that the curcumin plants could still be growing! So right now, in September, I'm still on the fence as to whether I should store mine, or just wrap it up real good during a cold spell, then let it grow during the hot days. ????????? Altho, I did read they go dormant at around 50°F, so I suspect they'll simply want to shut down until Spring, and ignore a yo-yo Winter! I probably won't have a choice, probably the plant will do the choosing! Here's to all of us having a good Curcumin crop next year! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

This variety of Curcuma isn't edible so I'll try another for harvesting 😋 This year I am going to bring them in as a houseplant to see how long they last until they die back to sleep. They were slow to sprout and good growth didn't happen until the really hot weather. I'm one the border of zone 5a and 6b so the temps are not optimal. Good luck with however you do yours! You could leave some out and bring some in so you lesson the possibility of losing them all. I have FB (Petals and Metal Flower Farm) and IG (Petals.and.Metal) if you want to see a pic I took today of them.

@@PetalsAndMetal I would love to see the pics, however, I'm not on FB or insta. You Tube is it for me. But I'm sure they look cool! 👍

I have three large pots of these beautiful plants that I just added this year to my garden that I found at Home depot . I don't know anything about them and your video was very helpful. How did yours turn out?

They're leafed out right now. I brought them out earlier this year than last to try to get earlier blooms. They aren't hardy here so I keep them in a pot in the basement over winter. They were lovely last year!

@@PetalsAndMetalHi! Question, I have one that's potted right now got it a few weeks back but the bracks? Part I think you called it is drying out idk if me putting it in the sun for 2 hrs was no good what can I do? The other one I have funny enough is from last year when it died on me in August I believe I planted the bulbs outside my porch just to try! And now the little leafs are coming out which I'm so excited about but sooo confused as those are in full sun as opposed to the one in the pot. Sorry for the long msg 😅 just wanted to explain. Appreciate the help!

@@Delamare82 it may just be that the bracts are done. If it was greenhouse grown, it's way ahead timewise compared to ones we start.

@@PetalsAndMetal Ok I see, should I just cut it all the way to stem then? Thanks for replying!

i dug out all of mine and wasn’t sure if i should keep the lower bulbs i think its for food storage that is at the bottom of the root or do i just break all them off and keep the top rhizome. thanks
@PetalsAndMetal2 жыл бұрын
Don't break them off.

Very slow 😳 have a few just now starting to bloom and they are short. I'll start them much earlier next year and see if I get better results. Wish I could post a pic.
