Love it guys, the one the entire internet has been hoping holding its breath for....suprised but nice to see ocho high up there again, do you think fortaleza will still "underperform" if given blind score on a seperate days to the others (ie sample, rate and review blind one each day at a time), this will tell us once and for all whether it gets outshone alongside other tequilas with one or another traits or if fortaleza truly underperforms as a tequila in general (although everyone was truly a winner in that batch, just some were more winners than others)

Can't say I'm surprised by the results. They're all fantastic bottles. You can probably blind them again 2 weeks from now and get totally different results. And Fortaleza has pretty wild batch variation. Some batches are okay. Others are life-altering.

Blind tastings are fun and reveal that we don't know as much as we think we do!🤣Your blind tasting removed your already preconceived bias for Fortaleza. I'm the opposite, I'm always hoping it confirms my dislike for Fortaleza's flavor profile. I would've liked to see G4 higher, but I need to try Arette's standard repo. I've had the blanco, and it's good, but I definitely considered it a second-tier blanco.

Same here. I never fell in love with Fortaleza like everybody else seems to have.. I was hyped to try it, but it was just 'alright' for me and my fiancé. Ocho, tesoro, codigo repos are better.

Not surprised Fortaleza came in last. It doesn't have a lot of complexity. It's a great sip, but not a favorite of mine. I think this holds especially true for those of us who are heavily influenced by bourbon. What do you guys think of Volans SiB Rep? Is my favorite rep.

I just started becoming a tequila amateur and I gotta say I got my hands on Mijenta blanco, G4 blanco, Ocho Blanco/Repo, so far my favorite Blanco is G4 and the Ocho Repo is my favs. Mijenta Blaco is honestly 2nd. Now I want to get my hands on Arrete. I will be getting my hands on El Tesoro Repo and hopefully Fortaleza blanco/Repo this weekend👌🏾

with my blind test G4 was always on the bottom. El tesoro and Fort were #1 and #2. I notice everytime I have a blind test the results I slightly different though. But G4 usually always on teh bottom.

Your prices are so low! I am in TX and they are quite a bit more. Ex. G4 repo $56, Fort repo $60, ET repo $50 and Ocho repo $56

Lucky you're not in New Zealand.. Fort repo would be about 90--100 USD here, Anejo is around 120-130. Ocho around $70, ET is really hard to find and prices all over the place. Arette is the only brand from this test that can be found here for a similar price. G4 and many others dont even get imported here.

Fortaleza is still my fave imo, to your point I think blinds are more a function of "bold over subtle taste". It'll be cool to see these in your ultimate spirits competition. I think drinking them individually instead of blinds might make a difference.

This is a common theme, that Fortaleza doesn't do well in blinds, and you're right that it does better individually because preconceived opinions will always place it higher. It's a well-made tequila that is overhyped and overpriced once it's imported and distributed.

Tequila Ocho is the in all of their line of options, but Fortaleza is the best of anything out there if you can find it.

I’ve tried all the big hitters, every variation (blanco,repo,anejo) and OCHO REPOSADO is the best Tequila hands down (especially for a beginner palette) So much Agave and smoothness. Literally just a smooth agave bomb with great palate & good notes of citrus/floral… SUPREMELY UNDERRATED! NEVER HEARD PPL TALKING ABOUT OCHO REPO, only the Blanco & Anejo. I encourage anyone looking to find a good tequila, FIND OCHO REPOSADO! And a close second is G4… the rainwater freshness taste is to die for..

Why is it that one arette repo is $62 for a 750ml and the other is $28 for a 1L. They both have the same exact name but the bottle looks different. I wonder if one has additives..

The $62 is likely the artesanal suave which uses traditional stone/brick oven cooking, compared to the regular version (tested here) which uses autoclave cooking. The entire arette line is a confirmed additive free brand.

I've always argued that blind tests don't eliminate bias, they simply introduce a different one. Fortaleza sounds like Four Roses, which somehow always fails in blinds and yet remains a favorite, even for people who rank it poorly in blinds. Outliers tend to fare badly in flights like this, I think.

For everybody saying that blind tasting introduces other biases - what bias can there be except pure taste and smell? If fortaleza doesn't taste as good as Arette, but wins in every other category, then you pay extra for exactly this category. Am I missing something? I imagine there could be some bias in expecting fortaleza to be in it's own tier, but then none tastes like what you imagined/remembered and you are lost.

I enjoyed that very much. I like Arette but It's been hard to find it near me lately... but there it was so I bought the repo and the blanco. The repo is excellent but I prefer the more intense agave of the blanco. I like that they are less peppery than many others.

I was re-watching since I'd recommended Arette so often and I kind of take issue with the idea that blind tests are distorting your results. Maybe you just don't like what you think you should like. Knowing what you're drinking is setting up expectations that are distorting your results.
