I'm assuming he took the daughter before anyone else boarded, but still, that seems like he was taking a huge longshot in killing her husband. His entire plan wouldn't have worked if she didn't take sleeping pills, because she probably wouldn't have gone to sleep that quickly nor would have slept through her daughter being taken. What was his plan if she didn't take a sleeping pill? Keep anyone but her from boarding until she fell asleep on her own?

It’s not a “new model”. It looks like an airbus a380. The fuselage is 24’ wide, 28’ tall(2 floors), and 238’ long. The cargo hold takes up 1/4 of the of the plane(6’4”) at the very bottom of the fuselage. Also, the most unrealistic part is where they walked out of the plane unscathed without any help. With the kid in her hands, too.

My FAVORITE example of that phenomenon was "Doctor Silverman" from the first 3 Terminator movies. He was the guy who put Sarah Connor into a mental hospital for her insanity only to encounter the T1000 and the T800 himself. You ever hear of "boy who cried wolf"? With the situation you are describing I think it would be like "The boy who cried wolf" IN REVERSE. Would be funny if a few years later someone who really was just flat out INSANE was shouting about something or someone was LYING about something crazy and this now "open minded" person totally believed them and to their own peril or inconvenience depending on the situation fully helped that person? Would be IRONIC.

How on earth could the other passengers not notice that she has child with her? They're all literally almost sitting close together and the plane is a closed space.. and the child is sitting right next to the window, meaning the man who took her while she was sleeping have to go thru her mom seat first before he can lift and take the sleeping child and someone would have notice that because he would then be walking in the middle of that plane carrying a child unless all the passengers took a sleeping pill or gassed to make them all fall asleep .. Hmm I think before anyone could enter the plane the girl was taken away by the flight attendant accomplice. They did enter the plane 1st without anyone yet so it's a possibility that the flight attendant was the one who took the girl and hid and when the passengers entered and the mother was still sleeping. So they didn't saw it but probably the mother only.

I actually watched this movie in the theater. This film pushes credulity to its limit. For starter, the plane has so many places to run around and hide things. Secondly, the plan for this heist is overly complicated all depending on no one remembering seeing her with her daughter. Come on, it's a tight space where everything you do and say is heard and seen by somebody. I actually hated this movie. Almost walked out mid way because of its stupid plot. Jodie Foster must have done this just for the money. In short, the improbability machine is running on overdrive for the plot of this movie.

The number of people who will totally forget who was with you in a plane journey when you board at evening time or a busy stressed out line of passengers during the day is in fact realistic. The stress of the journey itself and minding their own business can lead almost all, if not all passengers to conclude she's gone crazy.

Especially due to movies like this, other real life situations and superhero movies, I am very cautious when kids are around or when people are panicking. There's a psychological phenomenon where people who know they are right end up going with the crowd and convincing themselves to go with it, for example a test group with a few genuine volunteers and a few secret plants do a test and have to vote on which of three lines in a picture is the longest one: seeing the plants deliberately picking the same incorrect answer has the majority of the genuine volunteers changing their answer to the wrong one to do with the majority vote no matter how blatantly wrong it is. If anyone did see the child, if everyone else is saying there was no child, including plane officials, and the woman claiming she had a kid with her is being treated as insane, would make anyone easily fall into this phenomenon. I can't remember the name of it

not everyone saying "how did she board first? how did no one see her? why does she matter so much?" when they explained that she helped design the plane. clearly she's an important person, and it seemed that she fell asleep and julia must've been taken before everyone boarded. keep in mind that one of the hijackers was part of the cabin crew, if i'm not mistaken. someone also mentioned that since she helped design the plane, she mentioned that she wanted it to have more space, hence the larger plane. idk if this is true, i haven't watched the movie, but that does explain one thing tho.

That Air Marshal was beyond heartless and seemed like an absolute lowlife who didn't seem like he had any future plans or goals at all. Not to mention how it was made obvious by his stupidity in the climax that he was a weak criminal and inexperienced criminal despite all his planning. She almost certainly saved more lives by blowing him to hell. I hate people like that, they think they can talk their way of a paper bag and are shocked when they discover that they can't.

Imagine if this movie had an alternate bad ending where she fails to rescue her daughter. Kyle comes out alive but without her daughter. Kyle gets arrested for the murders of Carson and the other folks in the plane explosion, Stephanie gets away with murder and makes future plans for her next terrorist attack.

There’s another thriller/mystery film I was thinking of, called Red Eye (2005), while watching this that I think you should recap. The majority of the film also took place on an airplane like this one. Like I mentioned above, the film is from 2005 and it’s called “Red Eye” starring Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy. It was great. Rachel and Cillian were great together (the movie is basically just their two characters interacting).

I saw this movie in the theater years ago and I am wondering this: What kind of SUING RIGHTS would that woman have had had this story manifested in real life? I asked this question to a person I was chatting with some years ago and she said "technically you can sue for any reason" NO. NONE OF THAT BULLCRAP. When I say "suing rights" I mean something where you have reasonably GOOD CHANCES OF WINNING AND WINNING BIG, Where lawyers will be very enthusiastic and maybe even offer to help you sue ONLY for an agreed upon percentage of the winnings but no money up front. No lawyer would do this if you had poor chances of winning a large amount of money as then they would make nothing for all of their hard work. I am no lawyer but I think in real life she could win SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE AIRLINE. She would be RICH. And to boot if this story is interesting enough for a movie plot in the real world then if it was actually a TRUE STORY it would be made into a major hollywood movie. I also think the airline itself would end up facing huge fines and penalties from the government for ALLOWING this to happen and not helping the mother and treating her like she was crazy. I think the negative PR and penalties to the airline plus the money lost to the lawsuit would majorly cripple the airline.

​@@fairzack236 From their pov, she was a crazy lady. They never saw her or her daughter board the plane. The flight attendance "lied" convince them she was alone. The first impression the lady made on all of the passenger was delusional and crazy and force their plane to divert from their destination. Of course anyone from the passenger pov would just assume she was a crazy person.

This movie is wild. Definitely shows how mailable our memories can be, how so unreliable, and that if we tell a lie enough then it will become our truth Also shows the love of parent! Sometimes being a Grizzly Bear of a mom is useful and even good!
