wait till you get to learn the Arabic writings, oh gosh, it's all the same !! sobreaver You can't compare Arabic to Latin languages anyway, it has a different writing system depending on Farsi letters, which pronounced differently in Arabic. So the only equivalent of P is B sound in English, which is the letter ب in Arabic. While the sound Kh is a complete different letter ( خ) and exists as well in other languages, like Gaelic & German; for example: (ch) like: acht or eight in German , and the the sound gh (غ) as well is a complete different letter, which you can find commonly in French ( to replace the R sound), for example, rouge or red in French.

Edit: See Borisslav's comment below.

Actually Cyril and Methodius had very little to do with the Cyrillic alphabet. What Cyril, possibly with the aid of his brother Methodius, created, was the Glagolitic alphabet. The Cyrillic was developed later on in the Preslav Literary School in the First Bulgarian Empire, as an easier way to write Old Church Slavonic (aka Old Bulgarian). It may have been developed by some of Cyril's students, including Climent of Ohrid.

My Russian professor gave us an ultimatum- when writing a Л, М, or Я, there must be a hook at the left end of the letter or else it is wrong. I had it set in my mind from English that in cursive, every word is written with a continuous unbroken line, which causes difficulties when writing letters that do not end at the bottom, as with writing "bone." On my first written test, I tried painfully to connect every Cyrillic letter in a word, such as O with Л. My professor saw my test and said "BOЖE MOЙ- I've never seen anything like it in my life," and then told us all that not all Cyriliic letters have to be joined within a word.

Why do some of the letters look so different from when it's on a computer and when it's handwritten?
@shiokkotsu4 жыл бұрын
Veronika Dawson Actually that’s a really good question, I’ve never wondered why lmao. Maybe because you can’t add that much detail in like pixel letters/ it’s pretty much the same as English with cursive and normal handwriting/ computer text
@nicholasp92394 жыл бұрын
Different use in origine probably. Many language in Europe started to use cursive when paper came in the continent. Took Latin-Early Italian. Letter "U" was invented during the XV-XVI centuries by scholars to semplify. Before it was used "V" for both type. In Latin was LVPVS (wolf) and became LUPUS. Latins used "V" because straight lines are easier to inscript on stone.

There are a lot of videos like this that show individual letters. I'm looking for how the letters might change a bit when joined together. I've been reading that cursive is still much more common in Russia than in North America. I'm 43 so everytime I write something on paper, it's written, not printed. I'm trying to write "Привет" in script but want the letters joined.
@CuriousChrischannel6 жыл бұрын

Lily Cough Hello, Bulgarian here. Yes, they are similar but there are 2 letters that are not in the Bulgarian alphabet like ‘’ë, ы’’ and there is one letter ‘’щ’’ thats is pronounced ‘’sht’’ in Bulgarian and in Russian ‘’sh’’. Hope that helped! PS: the letter ‘’Ъ’’ is pronounced ‘’u’’ like ‘’turn’’ while the Russian does not have a pronunciation. ^^

Hi, am not entirely sure what you mean. Are you talking about the "e" in brackets below the Russian letter? If yes. This is the IPA sound of the letter. This is an international standard to transcribe the sound of foreign alphabets.

I write in italics and block letters at the same time. It looks pretty nice. In some italic letters, I don't finish the squiggles. Every Russian has his own style of writing😉 I have friends who write exclusively in block letters, they just haven't learned, it's much more convenient for them to write separate block letters than with squiggles. They just can't retrain; it's like teaching a lefty to be right-handed! But this is not a problem if you write intelligibly and accurately. 👍🏿
