Another great video! Always see those bearing and seals going bad! Worst part is, in order to tear it down that far to check for exact breakdown it’s cheaper to just replace whole gearbox assembly than a few bearings or seals.

That was pretty cool.. Very interesting and solid design of evap.barrel.. You took the curiousity out of me from doing that. Actually pretty cool and simple efficent design.. A little scaring inside the barrel.. But im pretty sure that evaporator barrel would last a very long time Gear box assembly..ahhh..not.. That.looked pretty contaminated. As always..appreciate your time and curiousity... Thank you! And MERRY CHRISTMAS.! To your family and yourself Bill.! Blessing always. Joseph Bryan Tyler Refrigeration.

Syrup to water mixture is a very specific proportion. For a specific temperature setting, an ice to liquid ratio will be achieved, if the mixture is in range. If the mixture is to thinned out to much the machine will jamb.

Interesting design...does Ice-O-Matic make their own motors?

I dont believe they do- I believe they just use a mass produced motor from a motor manufacturer-- if I had the rest of the motor I could be a bit more in depth

Hey your on a good path. To know just how something works inside out out. Is far better than, well don't work replace it IE. Parts changer!! You know how it works helps to know why or what failed . So make a better repair and correct the why it failed, not just throw parts at it.

I don't like the design. The pressure inside the barrel is tremendous if you consider the ice has to be scraped from the inside of the barrel ,lifted up into the extruder forced through the holes then up and away via some form of chute.

I remember back in the day, rebuilding those gearboxes on Scotsman flankers water would get into the gearbox and destroy the gears not to mention the tremendous amount of torque the motor would put on the gearbox Tear it apart real easy piss poor design
@curioushvacguy68765 жыл бұрын
Man rebuilding those must have been pretty labor intensive, maybe the cost back then was to high to just swap that gear box out. I don't see alot of these in my area but I've heard there are alot of gearbox and auger failures in these.
@kingofthecrease305 жыл бұрын
ice o matic & scotsman flakers/nugget machines are the worst...i never saw bearings & water seals last more than 3 years...usually they are shot after 2 years...if the evaporator is all scraped up inside you have to replace it...90% of the time when the bearings go we just replace the entire auger assembly with a new evap...especially under warranty because that's what the mfg tells us to do...same shit design for the last 20 years
@curioushvacguy68765 жыл бұрын
Hey there- youd think after years of failures like this, especially if they dont last more then 3 years, they would change up the design. There were definite signs of water damage at that bearing. Doesnt sound like im missing much, lol- Thanks for watching
