By international treaty there are magic words in aviation to avoid confusion. “Emergency” is a magic keyword with atc in every country. As pilots these are taught us as phraseology. There is no casual conversation.

International flights have priority. However, there should have been cancellations upfront and diversions

The Pilot in Command is always responsible for his ship or aircraft. He is the final player of the safety net. Air traffic Controllers workload dramatically increased due to the deteriorating weather conditions. There is an Emergency phase that the Flight crew need to declare to become a priority flight. 1.May day or Pan Pan Pan.

This is just ridiculous... "Yo dawg, you know those air traffic controllers, who have the most responsible and stressful job in the world... Let's test how much we can stress them before something goes wrong". Honestly, i respect the pilots, the flight attendants and all the rest of the people involved in making flying possible, but the flight control operators... those are some next level human beings. I have nerves of steel, but i won't take that job no matter how much they pay me. Idk what they feed those guys, but this is as nerve wrecking as it can get. I'd rather have a full match against a professional MMA fighter, then sit in this chair for an hour, let alone whole shift.

Which part of "Emergency" would not have been understood? How can shyness/politeness (if that's what it was) be allowed to down a passenger aircraft? This is very human, and very sad. Let's just hope that communications were sharpened up in the aftermath.

This BS that "priority" is equivalent to emergency in Spanish is irrelevant. Even the Captain was yelling FOUR times to the co-pilot to clearly declare emergency and that they are running out of fuel. The captain is hearing the co-pilot talk and is clearly NOT satisfied that the co-pilot is CLEARLY declaring emergency.
@likkerland Жыл бұрын
That was probably not actually said on the CVR since the captain's English was poor.

@peterolsen2692 жыл бұрын
This conversation with the lawyer and passengers is really moot. If you don't speak one word of conversational English and you fly aircraft you need to know some words that ONLY have a meaning in aviation. Declaring an emergency is one of them. PanPan and Mayday are a couple of more. Windshear, Ceiling, Runway Visual Range. There are many words that can be interpreted in many ways, but if you are pilot, you know EXACTLY what they mean even if you are a Chinese national. Once he declined to divert to Boston and now running out of fuel, everyone in the cockpit was just too scared to admit they had made a horrible error in judgement.
@robertgary35612 жыл бұрын
Some of this is wrong. We know the weather before we start the approach. We get updated weather from airport. Decision to divert is automatic at certain fuel level.

I’m only 21 mins in but definitely pilots fault. Idk why on earth he waited until he had 5 mins left of flight, to mention the low fuel emergency. Then again didn’t bother mentioning it to the next controller. The pilot seemed to think ATF could read his mind & dashboard.

Yup, for the survivors it is a merciful act of God. Hard to face, it is also love in action when God sees fit to harvest us. We only own our choices to follow or not follow Him and gain his approval for eternity. We are owned by our creator. No one loves us more. God bless the families who suffered loss.
@Mike_Jones2812 жыл бұрын
So whatever God does is deemed suitable regardless of the outcome because he owns us. Therefore, we, mere property, must accept whatever he subjects us to even though we know as humans that the ownership of property does not negate our responsibility to see to its welfare, like a dog or cat, and that the ownership of humans as property is morally repugnant. By your logic, there is no reason this alleged God should expect the approval of anyone because of his or her amorrality.
@michaelpcooksey50962 жыл бұрын
@@Mike_Jones281 If it were not for the fact He is love itself, your observation might be true. Fact is though He wants us to exist, everything we have including free choice is a gift from Him, and since He made us for Himself it is ONLY with him that we will be happy. Our responsibility is to decide whether to love, or not. It is NOT a pleasure cruise. It is hard to say no to the demigod in the mirror. We are such a violent and selfish race, our pattern for approval is to follow His example and that annoys our pride. Bottom line though is His laws rule, just like the laws of physics he enacted. Go against them and bad things happen. The choice is yours. But try asking Him to show you who he is. He will not intrude where He is not wanted, but when asked He will not fail to answer.
