If you look at the cut back to Roy, he and the drummer and other guitarist all have smiles on their faces after hearing Curly's break. CC was a beast on steel.

What a beast of a player! I have a pedal steel guitar and can't believe how innovative and precise he is in these videos.

I am astounded by his amazing talent, inventiveness & uniqueness. One of the greatest steel players to have ever lived. This is from the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame: "CURLY CHALKER: AN INDIVIDUALIST WHO ADVANCED THE STEEL INTO POP AND JAZZ, CREATED HIS OWN COUNTRY SWING GENRE AND MAINTAINED HIS MUSICAL INTEGRITY DURING THE POPULARIZATION OF THE STEEL'S COMMERCIAL SOUND. A TECHNICIAN WHO INVENTED BAR "QUAKING" AND INTRODUCED VOLUME "GUTTING." HIS CASCADING CHORDS, DELIVERED WITH THE SPEED OF SINGLE STRING RIFFS, IDENTIFY HIS UNIQUE STYLE AS THE "CHALKER SOUND." BORN: OCTOBER 22, 1931 ENTERPRISE, ALABAMA DIED: APRIL 30, 1998 INDUCTED: 1985"

A great musician and one of the few I never got to hear play in person. Kinda reminds me of a steel guitar version of Gene Simmons.

What tuning was Chalkers back neck?
@butchpeters60036 жыл бұрын
His back neck was a standard E9th tuning. His C6th front neck first string started with the E string instead of what was then the standard G string.

Cincinnati Steel Guitar if that was the case it would be the other way around. Maybe gene is trying to look like chalker? Either way watching this makes me want to order a new MSA lol
@cincinnatipedalsteel43476 жыл бұрын
Lol.... yeah chalked is older that's for sure. Lol (your getting too technical for me, haha) Yeah man, those MSA guitars are absolutely sweet!!!! Out of all the guitars made today, as far as sound MSA and Show Pro are the top of the food chain imho (I cant decide which I want to save for if I go only by tone).... Now if you look at the guitars as a whole, MSA hands down! Between the tone, the slightly curved knee levers. The L Frets, the pickup changing system..... just the all around beauty I go MSA EVERY DAY of the week and twice on Sunday. But when I hear Robbie Turner, Mike Johnson or Lloyd Green play a Show Pro..... wow! Of course those guys could play an old MSA sidekick with 1 lever and 2 pedals and they would sound better than me on my best day, Lol. But seriously, you sont thibk Gene Simmons and Chalker look alike? ;)
