The movie wasn’t made to be a full biopic . It was made about the turbulent period before the Smile Jamaica Concert , the shooting of Bob Marley , and its aftermath , Bob going into exile and returning for the One Love Peace Concert . Bob in London making Exodus , the album of the century. The Marley’s did a documentary in 2012 that covers everything from his birth to his death including interviews by Cindy Breakspeare , Bunny Wailer and others.

His life as child, him,Peter tosh and bunny wailer playing together as children to them practicing as singers/musicians. Them meeting Chris Blackwell, performing and eventually not connecting with each other, them bringing the i-threes , tour life, many incidents of police search Bob and the band, tour bus for weed. Bob Marley and women ,showing more focus on Cindy breakspeare (from winning miss world to having a relationship with Bob) etc. it's really not that hard

I was disappointed with the movie. It felt like a Rita Movie. Yessss!! She had impact on Bob. She was his wife…but the movie came off as a Bob and Rita love story…less about him as a Man. How he REALLY lived!! Bob had many women, they didn’t have to mention Cindy if they didn’t want to. No problem, but what about the women and kids. And how he showed love to everyone. It was NOT Bob Story…it was a Son telling a love story about his mommy and daddy. I hope they do another Bob movie. (Not his family, but someone who wants to tell his story For REAL.) The only thing they did well was finding a man who physically looked similar to Bob. How Peter Tosh cut out the movie. Bunny was not mentioned… Even would have been nice to see if Rita, and Marcia and the other lady had a conversation before performing at a show etc…

My main take away from this Bob Marley movie is the vast disunity that is within the Marley family. The most important question I have is why couldn't the Marley family fund the movie without Paramount being the execs?

The Marley family does not have the money to finance a movie. The total of all of their network is what it cost to make the movie and if the movie flopped then that's their loss. Not even Tyler Perry is rich enough to budget a major movie on his own without some help from the big studios. It is the big studios that help to market the movies to the world. They have the big bucks and they take the risk. The movie Malcolm X done by Spike Lee was budgeted by a smaller amount by the studios and it was the black entertainers such as Prince, MJ, Oprah, Jordan, and even Denzel who starred as Malcolm X put up more money so the movie could be longer. Jamaicans don't do stuff like that. They stay on the sidelines and complain like this dude.
