Roaming The Outback

Roaming The Outback

5 жыл бұрын

Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 2 revealing the relics at Pump Hole bush camping area, then traverse the 53km Beefwood road to Beefwood Hut stockmans camp and arrive at Myninya campgrounds. A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland.
Pump Hole bush camping area has several pieces of machinery including a stunning portable steam engine and water pump. Pump Hole has plenty of birdlife to admire, including the odd Pelican, and a visit from some feral goats.
The 53km Beefwood road crosses through the park, offering green gardens, stockyards, the simplistic Beefwood Hut stockmans camp with original cast iron oven, and dams to visit. A rocky plataeu reveals a grand view of the park, before again decending into the soft red desert sands.
Join me in part 2 for my discoveries of what Currawinya has to offer the outback traveller.

Hi Brett, from South Africa. You are truly an inspiration to me and my wifey, the energy and time put into producing your videos, boggles my mind. When I think of the very first video I watched of yours a long time ago, to what you are producing now, I'm totally amazed at the quality and time you have always put into your videos. Wifey and I are 69 and 71 years old respectively and are still overland exploring in our 47 yr old landy series 2b forward control (heavenly modified of course) and our camping kit. Well done son, you're on the right road and your philosophy in life is perfect. Don't wait till you're ancient like us. Take care and we look forward to your next upload. Mike and Jenny Köhl, Western cape South Africa.

Good to see your using your Camp Buddy. I've had one for a while but still getting my van wired up for camping. You should do at least ONE Camp Buddy cooking school vid on how you did with this one, although quite briefly. All the best Mate and I hope your Good News is really good for you.

However - with these videos I can get my "Outback-Fix" at leas visually, from halfway across the world. Safe travels!

Amazing landscapes, great vid, they really let you imagine what life must have been like back then. Can't imagine the soil has changed all that much. That traction engine you see (would have been British green)may have been made in the 1850s-1870s, as that company started manufacturing heavy oil 4 stroke traction engines in the late 1800s. They actually designed the Caterpillar track we're familiar with today on agricultural machines and tanks. The patent was sold to "catapillar"

I really enjoyed the peace and solitude this production presented here. I'd love to work at Carrawinya - hardly any people and rubbish. I'll be excited to go back when the new sections are opened up. Believe it or not, but in the past during good seasons all that herbage fattens cattle faster than any thing else. You're lucky to see some greenery after a little rain - such a contrast. And your cooking is delectable too. You're living more than the dream - you're living the high life. Imagine the ones stuck in the city ? Adventure before dementia.

Looks like a very interesting place to visit. I feel your pain with the HF, great kit but sometimes you’ve got to muck about. It looks like you have a self tuning aerial, we used to use the old manual set up and charts to work out what channel. That was always interesting.. keep ‘em coming Brett very enjoyable to watch.. take care.

Thanks Bob. I don't carry fire wood with me, no room for it, and as I'm in national parks can't collect wood.. so no fires. I don't meet many people on my trips, and to film them would mean getting film releases signed off on and all that legal stuff to take care of. My films are also broadcast of tv.

Hi Brett, Great video as always. With your vegetable problem, I always simply boil my veges in salty water for 25 to 40 minutes, this will bring them up to the same cooking time as your roast , then the oven adds a nice crispy browning to it all. Another trick is to cut your veges into bite size portions and toss it all in together and they will cook as the same rate. Enjoy your trip Brett :) cheers Peter

I know this is an older video, and not sure you will respond. But, you should get a Directional Antenna for your radio. I.E. one you can point to where you want to broadcast too, and of course put it up as high as you can. Yep, I'm a HAM here in the States. I specialize in mobile set ups. And yes, night is the best time for long range HF, its all about the Atmospherics.

Love the videos. Can't say I would want to rely on an HF in an emergency, sat phones would have to be more effective.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 5 жыл бұрын
With an HF in an emergency I would just direct selcall a base and have 7 frequencies to choose from, so would be a much better signal, but yes, definitely a sat phone is quicker than the testing I'd need to get a strong signal.
@adelarsen9776
@adelarsen9776 5 жыл бұрын
In an emergency a HF can be heard by many stations with one possibly close by which can assist. On a sat phone you can only talk to one person. Knowing how a HF works will give you confidence to always rely on HF and not the Satellite Telephone.
@landcruisertroopytouringan2166

In an life threatening emergency you are allowed to call ‘mayday’ any where on any frequency. Brett, you should spend a little time with you local Amateur radio club and get your Foundation Licence. This allows you to program you HF radio to a huge spectrum of frequencies, bands and people all over the world 24/7 and guarantees contact all the time. Then HF radio is a useful tool in the car. Regards Adam VK3MOC.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 5 жыл бұрын
In an emergency I can direct selcall any of the bases on 7 frequencies, so I can call an operator 24/7 or even the RFDS.. using the daily SKEDS on the other hand means I can only make contact during those hours, perfectly fine for a weather update.. but I could have selcalled an operator if I wanted to for the same info.. sounds like a different licence would mean a lot more money and exams.. Perhaps something in the future if I catch the DX bug.

As you often show, mans existence in the outback is the only thing of any interest. It's mind bamboozling how National Parks are declared everywhere and then buildings, infrastructure and machinery are just left to rot and be be consumed by the earth. Honestly, how hard is it to put a shelter over that machinery? Parks... you've done it again!
