From washer woman to slave to queen, this piece sings about the pain of being a black woman, the glory of it, the ecstasy, the grief and our various and sundry deaths. Priceless dance.

Dear Sisters, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. What a tribute to life and to Alvin's legacy. Few of you, if any of you, will remember me as part of the Ailey Family, but I am, and so grateful to be. And to Miss Renée, my queen of all times, forever burnished in my youthful mind and spirit - you remain as glorious and regal as you ever were. Peace and love to you ALL and long may our story and our history be told. Thank you thank you thank you.

Just beautiful all of the dancers. I am watching it on Mother's Day. What a powerful master piece indeed. The first time I saw it was with Judith Jamison and later with Donna Woods. To all the dancers I say BRAVO! What beautiful filming and editing. Thanks for sharing.

Well that absolutely took my breath away and gave me chills. The first person I saw dance, "Cry" was Donna Wood. It was on PBS I think it was their, "Dance In America" series. The entire hour was Ailey Company. I remember seeing, "The Lark Ascending", "Night Creature", "Cry", and "Revelations". The first person I saw dance it in person was Renee Robinson. I remember hearing Judith Jamison say that every woman that dances it passes it on to the next. Also this video with the different women and settings made me think of Mr. Ailey saying, "For Black women everywhere. Especially our mothers."

WOW me too! Donna Wood on PBS and Renee Robinson live ... (we must be kids of the 70s) I've seen this piece so many times over the years and this video really makes the meaning so fresh and poignant true to the intent. (I've also heard Ms. Jameson and Ms. Waters speak on the legacy of the dance and how each dancer infuses it) Excellent JOB Ms. Paulos
