I recall Quartzite as very dusty. Many years ago we checked it out to do the flea market. We were antique dealers. I remember telling my late husband, this grit will destroy our beautiful things, the kids lungs too! Needless to say we went back to Laughlin and he did LA that weekend. I do have a ton of stones and gems to sell however. So maybe...

Dust depends where you camp. But it is the desert and dust is always present.

We go rockhounding in the Quartzsite area every winter. Coyote Fresh is a good place to go if you just want one or two items. If you need to make a grocery haul, you will get the lowest prices and best selection if you drive to Parker, CA and shop at the Wal-Mart there. Many of the rock and gem vendors at the showgrounds only accept cash. If you need to withdraw cash, there are just a few places with ATMs in Quartzsite and the lines get long in January. Instead, you can use your debit card to get cash back when you checkout at Wal-Mart and avoid an ATM fee. Last year, the two Running Man service stations in Parker had the best fuel prices for both gasoline and diesel of any fuel station in or near Quartzsite, but not sure how their prices currently compare to those at the truck stop in Quartzsite. In Quartzsite there are plenty of RV repair and parts shops and places to get a quick tire replacement for your jeep or ATV (found this out the hard way). There are also some local RV repair businesses that specialize in making "housecalls" to the nearby BLM camping areas and their workers have plenty of experience doing repairs. There is a small business near the main intersection in Quartzsite where you can dump your tanks and fill your freshwater tank for a modest fee if you are boondocking instead to staying at a campground with full hook-ups.
@Livingit12 жыл бұрын
Gas and Diesel were cheaper in Quartzsite this year. I haven't checked for 2 weeks, but last time it was 15 cents a gallon difference. Might be competition between Terribles, Arco and the rest.

going to town make sure you wear seat belt and expect super tail gaters and people pulling out right in front of you or passing at 80 to 100 mph in the 35 to 55 mph zones and side by sides going by at 30 to 50 miles per hour in the camp areas( speed limit in camp and roads 15 mph )

I really do not understand the fascination with Quartsite. It's barren, dirty/dusty, with Zero character other than the fact that humans flock there during the winter. Why... well I'm guessing that somewhere along the line, someone start an Urban Legend that it's where the Cool People go.
@Livingit12 жыл бұрын
They have a rock and gem show, gold mining show, RV show, and other events in the area. There is alot of free camping. To some myself included, the desert is a beautiful place with amazing sunsets and sunrise. The area has become a meeting area for all kinds of nomadic groups. They have Toyota motorhome gathering, Wanderlodge meet up, Class A motorhome meet ups, Escapees meet here in winter as well. Florida us to humid for me. 60s and 70s appeal to alot of people. Quartzsite is not for everyone but I like it and call it my winter home. I meet with friends each year here and most of us travel other parts of country in summer. As far as barren and no character, I would disagree and could actually show you some cool things if you had a open mind!
