10:43 Actually, it's still the same Fire Temple track but they replaced the chanting with a choir lead sample that they already had in the Cartridge ROM. They manually transcribed the notes sung in the original chant as best they could and put that into the 1.1 version. This also goes for all other versions after 1.0. I don't understand why people would think they replaced it with the Shadow Temple theme. The Shadow Temple theme is only used in the bottom of the well as child Link and of course the Shadow Temple.

It's because they used a sound font based off the shadow temple for re-recording. So you can hear the same instrumentation. Which apparently caused some to assume it was the shadow temple theme.

It's a choir sample that was already put onto the cartridge, being used for multiple tracks such as the Chamber of Sages, the Goddess cutscenes, the first Ganondorf battle, some of the credits track, and the aforementioned Shadow Temple/Bottom of the Well just to name a few. Thus, they edited the Fire Temple track by removing the one shot sequenced notes used by the chanting samples, swapped a sample bank byte to get the choir samples in, and then tried to make the notes similar to what you hear from the chanting samples. If you compare the two, you can tell the choir hits the same rhythm and notes that the original chanting does.

@@GiordanDiodato Actually it was likely removed because a commonly used Jewish cultural symbol was being used in a game about demons, and anti-Semitic slander accusing Jewish people of being devil worshippers has existed for centuries. The Star of David was used to identify Jewish prisoners during German occupation, yes, but it wasn't something that was made up then and the symbol still exists to this day on the flag of Israel. It is much more likely they were avoiding accusations of promoting anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories than offending people for historical persecution.

Actually, Nintendo originally didn't allow Binding of Isaac on 3DS. It wasn't until the game was ported to Wii U and Switch that Nintendo were suddenly okay with it.

Pretty sure that the reason they changed Skull Kid was because, unlike the other characters mentioned, he also had giant lips, which very well _could_ be seen as a blackface caricature, as Nintendo learned the hard way decades prior with Jynx, who had the same problem (face framed in shadow with eyes and lips visible). They didn't want a repeat of that, so they turned Skull Kid into a coconut-bird-thing, also turning the mouth into a beak.

But a group of dedicated video game detectives discovered that the updated version was produced _before_ the release of the game. The Jewish “Star of David” symbol is a 6 pointed star (which btw wasnt even originally associated with the religion and was chosen much much later). A pentagram is a 5 pointed star AKA the most common type of star symbol, the kind little kids use when drawing pictures of a night sky and all sorts of other harmless uses. Theres nothing inherently evil about it. The stigma comes from how practioners of witchcraft use it as a symbol of protection or banishment (depending on its orientation) and they actually copied that from medieval grimoires which claimed that it was the method King Solomon himself (oh look another connection to Judaism lol) used to control demons back in his day.

Ironically enough his brother Ray Rougeau has been working with WWE since 1994 in various capacities.

The Mountie was actually banned from Canadian television. They did not appreciate being made into villains. He actually had to do separate promos for Canada as Jacques Rougeau and as the Mountie for other markets and lose the hat and coat while wrestling. After a while, they just dropped the whole thing, but the gimmick may still have legal issues in the Great White North.

Yes, he says Hulk Hogan was caught saying a racist rant, but then he goes on to say "not that there are too many orange people in this world" with pictures of David Dickinson and Donald Trump. Yes, although Skull Kid wasn't actually in the blackface style (having big but not bulbous lips and not the trademark bright red), it is irritating to hear someone not understand that "blackface" doesn't just mean "a face that is black", it's a caricature defined by various features brought together and those other characters don't have any of them. Nintendo and other Japanese companies absolutely do have characters whose design is lifted from blackface, such as the singer Pokemon, and if you know what the blackface caricatures were used to convey (which the Japanese artists almost certainly would not), it's very much reasonable to change them. For anyone who doesn't get it, take the Jewish caricatures used in Nazi propaganda and that's exactly what it is, just a different country (U.S.) and a different ethnic group (African-Americans). It's okay to not realise where something comes from but once you do know, you judge it accordingly. Jinx was actually based on a Japanese fashion style of the time, “Ganguro” or something spelled similar: basically it was a fashion being interpreted as the beauty standards of America at the time, implying more of an overuse of lipstick, sort of what smoochum is to imply. For the Skull Kid, I don't think there was any censorship going on. The design of Skull Kid has always been his head was wooden, but ideas at the time of OoT meant they just didn't care to properly texture Skull Kid until Majora's Mask. They didn't think a Skull Kid was important enough to properly model until he became a main protagonist. I can see the main reason for the lacking texture on Skull Kid's face on N64 OoT being because the character is so far away, they only had to emphasise the beak and glowing eyes to save resources, especially when N64 OoT is made at such a low resolution. On the official OoT art for Skull Kid, you can see a wooden colour on the left side of the face while the rest is hidden in shadow because honestly, why bother having it's face visible on the art but not visible ingame? Why waste a wood texture on a far away Skull Kid when you can make them look mysterious in shadow instead? Of course, with the 3DS's heightened graphics and capabilities, they were able to make it look properly textured and more faithful.

pff. SNES era Nintendo censorship was already massively toned down from NES era. More interesting overall though is that Nintendo of Japan was far less prone to censorship than Nintendo of America (and Nintendo of Europe sat somewhere in the middle) Most of what you hear about Nintendo's censorship rules was specifically in America, and often the Super Famicom version of the equivalent games was different. (I'm personally bemused by the fact that in Mario Kart on Super Famicom, if you win as peach she's drinking from the champagne bottle... Like, taking really big swigs of it.) Of course, Japan did sensor blood, but that was in Japanese law for quite a while... Meanwhile No More Heroes had an American release where enemies exploded into clouds of blood, while in japan they explode into unidentifiable sprays of black mist. And Europe? Larry seemed to have missed that the censored design actually originated from the US release of Majora's Mask. It probably was genuine censorship, as I don't recall them going back to touch up any other textures when they brought that game over.

@@329link It's not really accurate to call them "accusations of racism". Asserting that it resembles a recognisable (to Western nations) racist caricature is not the same thing as accusing the designers of having racist intent, it's saying "This looks like something you should avoid it looking like". Basically imagine you've called a character a name that sounds like a racial slur in another language and you're going to export the game & character to that country - this is people saying "Hang on, over hear it means something offensive". Sometimes the intent would actually be there but often the context isn't familiar to the people who use it and it's treated like it's an exaggerated cartoon rather than a piece of racist propaganda intended to dehumanise.

Sega even censored the green cross in Phantasy Star II on the Sega Megadrive Classics. Changed it to an H and removed the cross from the doctor. They are afraid of offending people?
