Current State of Gray Zone Warfare Hotfix 5.2

Hi and welcome to another Gray Zone Warfare video.
This video is a collection of my thoughts after loading into the game today to a maximum of 30fps while standing still in the base camp.

It's certainly unfortunate this latest set back but we have to remember it's pre alpha. I've backed off my playing of GZW until optimisation is improved. It will improve people...patience!

I think evey once forgot this and couple of runs to build up cash from a loss is not a bad thing. But it would be nice if they would roll it back in the meantime.

PERSONALLY I think the reason they released the game when they did is because it was receiving a lot of interest which translates to more revenue to put back into development but MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY it offered a far bigger test pool of different configurations of PC hardware, When the decision was made to use UE5 I'd hazard this will have been one of the primary goals for the team and generally speaking the people who are going to be committed to getting into alphas and betas are going to be using higher end hardware to run similar games which really isn't helpful for creating a scalable experience for the average player. Its still a fairly new engine with significant limiting factors that are not only demonstrated in this game but Epics flagship UE5 titles like Fortnite. Like you say its only been a month, these things take time and require lots of data throughput. I'd also say that talking about "fps" and giving an arbitrary number is an irrelevancy at this stage in development when so many things are changing so regularly, over the course of the last month I've seen frame times become a lot more stable in benchmarks I've watched on KZbin with hardware different to my own and on my own system which is the bedrock of a stable experience in a video game like this, if the time between frames is inconsistent it doesn't matter what your average frame rate is, its going to feel like a stutter-filled mess. I agree wholeheartedly about this damaging the interest in the game and more generally about waiting for things to cook a bit longer but I do believe that ethos isn't really applicative to this particular game and that at the end of the day Gray Zone is an early access title in Alpha on a complex engine, I feel like more people need to set there expectations accordingly.

They could have had pre-order options and had a Closed Alpha, Closed Beta with drops / keys available for watching streams. They have sold about 1 million copies but only have an average player count of 4 thousand. Twitch has less than 500 viewers in the category usually. Many of the server issues seem to be when player count is higher causing server stress. The hype and money could have been made differently imo. My video was more about player retention anyway.

@@jaypextk I really don't see how closing the alphas and betas down is going to increase the testing bed in hardware and help give more insight on specified areas for the devs. Also expecting player retention for an EA Alpha is a fallacy…

They rushed the game to capitalise on the tarkov debacle and it paid out (considering the number of account sold). Unfortunately they are not able to keep up with the development/optimisation.

A small studio based in Brno that desperately needed the funding for the game development to continue despite the state game is in. That's the situation atm pretty much.

Guys you need to remember that this isn’t a full released game it’s still the alpha version so there is going to be stuff that is messy in it with that being said I do think this patch is actually a step backwards because I am crashing every time I get on a chopper and lose all my progress with task and lose my armor and guns and whatever I had on me so I hope that is fixed but please remember it’s still in the works

AI in Tiger bay is not better than the Starterdown AI, it's just so much and so many bushes and angles + Bad FPS + high input lag makes tigerbay extremely unenjoyabley so much that I would only go there for quests

You explained your problem right from the start. "They should have let it cook longer". Put the game in the Steam oven and cook it yourself just let it sit there roasting for a couple months. Master Chef the shit out of this game yourself.

Sorry to admit I did duplicate some kit in the past but only because I was a noob and just ended up with no money. Got sick of running out with nothing but a knife hoping to scam some kit from somewhere so I could try a task AGAIN! The economy needs a lot of work.

Its a pre-alpha, people seem to not understand the difference between a full final release and a product that isn't even in beta...the update did fix the mission problem for me, but unfortunately it has affected performance causing framerate drops, people who could barely play the game before now cant anymore and crash a lot. I get the frustration, but we have to give the dev's and company some slack, they are doing their stinking best for us. Consider yourself a tester of this game, report the bugs but stay civil and show some understanding. Putting a lot of pressure and toxicity onto the devs is not going to help, it will only make things worse for everybody. Anyway if you think this alpha is bad, go play star citizen thats in alpha for 10 years now and see how bugfree and enjoyable that alpha is.....

Too many people have gotten complacent in games being 'released' in a pre alpha state. This is a recent (5-10 years) phenomenon. Tarkov is not a released game either after 6-7 years. Why should people just accept that a Public Alpha has issues when it could have been tested / released differently and retained a much larger portion of the player base?

Havent crashed at all. Frames are better on my end than previous stuttering is gone during heli rides. Entire hot fix is a good thing for me I have i5-11600k and a 3060 and have zero problems.

I don't know what changed, but my graphics have gone to shit, it was crisp and clear before now it's grainy and rough. As you say, changing settings don't seem to do anything in game

at-least you are getting 10FPS, i was getting 1fps once i was out of ADS and now i been crashing every time i gen in helo to do any mission. i went from 90fps to 20 to 1fps in after the Hotfix 5.2.

I've already played over 100 hours, and still running with m4 kit, haven't tried mk18 yet, and I start seeing quest from tiger bay, seems I've done most quests from other location, if I start doing going into tiger bay with those mk18 builds it will end up like losing gear all the time, I know. so I mean I'll probably shut down this game for a week to see if there's any improvement about the AI mechanic and performance, 100 hours is long enough for most of my other games

I understand your frustration and i agree with you about some things, but… First of all.. its alpha. Second, the reason for the release is cauz of the BS from EFT. GZW saw a opportunity to make money cauz of that. Third, how would they test the stability of the servers with ONLY the streamers? They had to have more ppl playing it to see the problems.

I must admit this game gets boring very quick, its a dull assed affair with little excitement. I'll keep an eye on the patch delivery, yet there's little draw in monotonous jungle...my fault entirely

After the patch Im getting the same 30 fps but as soon as I move im down to about 4 fps. Had a solid 45 fps before the patch.

Alpha is far from perfect, beta isn’t even perfect. I think for a pre alpha it is exactly what I would expect an alpha to play like.

That was when content creators got to play in closed sessions before anyone else. Yes it’s not “full release 1.0” but it’s definitely not alpha stage - Early Access releases come after beta but before full release.

hey man, the game is still not release. it is a EA and when you bought the EA then you know that it has bugs and will crash also. people should only buy EA if they want to test the game. surely then wanted some money to buy employee saleries. thus this EA. The company behind this game is not CoD with a lot of money . I am also a developer and I know bugfixing is hard, you can't test every usecase by yourself, then when i buy the EA I know the game will crash and I love the journey to see where this game will go. I am sure they not just release EA and leave it. they release the game in this state, because there is alot of extraction shooter comming in this year and they want some the markt.

My issue is that this isn't Early Access, this is an Open Pre-Alpha. It's about player retention and how they likely could have retained more players (and built up hype) if they used a stepping stone method like Closed Alpha, Closed Beta, Open Beta to find and fix issues over 6 months or so.

I have a literal top of the line 4090 i9 1400k raptor, and my shit has the worst screen tearing and lag i have ever seen. The "patch" was god awful. Also aks are trash in real life. They dont add up to an m4 ever. They are being realistic. Also russian knock off 545 ammo is very weak compared to its daddy the 556. They just need to add other types of guns and ammo is all. Its basically m4 mk18 and r700 vs the 3rd world trash guns.

I think eventually we’ll get a 556 ak to match the m4 or an ak101/103 which can have the mods but the current state of the guns is 556 or nothing it seems.

Exactly, but not only that but my issue wasn’t even with the game being early access. It was more about player retention and how 6 extra months of development would could have kept many casual gamers around for longer than 3 weeks
