Mark and Elvis. Old Yeller is definitely a keeper. I loved that book.

Thank you - I remembered Mark's name /after/ I finished filming the video... I call that very inconvenient timing! I'm glad you liked Old Yeller enough to keep it. Right now I'm approaching the end with a lot of trepidation because if there's one thing I don't like, it is a book that makes me cry. I don't like to cry.
@BookZealots6 ай бұрын
@@Eldertalk yeah, I know what you mean about crying while reading Old Yeller. I think that's why it's such a classic though. It punches us in the gut and we can all relate. I usually remember something after recording too. it's so annoying. For instance, I forgot to mention the engine from the Wright Brothers. LOL

I was commenting when my comment flew off the page in a great flurry of Continualism I guess.lol. Maybe I'll be able to come back with my thoughts on that whole subject when I have more time. It's always a shock to have my typing disappear like that. Also, the book on Paul should be interesting. Must go take the morning meds and get myself moving for the day. Good to see your post!

30 pages in a book like that is definitely a lot! I’ve been hearing a lot about that book about Paul. It sounds pretty interesting.

The book about Paul is based on scripture references along with what's known about the place and time. It is a lot of review for anyone who reads Acts and the epistles of Paul, but it helped me focus more on Paul's life. It gave me more clarity about who he was and what he did with his life. I ended up thinking I knew Paul better because of the book, and it put in me a hunger for more information about early church history.

"That's all I'm reading".... sounds like a lot! You've got a fantastic lineup there. I read E M Bounds many years ago, I enjoyed his books on prayer.

I like how each chapter of the EM Bounds book feels like a spiritual pep-talk to encourage pastors to pray!

You have and have had some interesting reads here. I have the Paul bio, but have not read it yet; I already know I need to set aside time and go slowly with this one and not sure when. I have a bind-up of seven E.M. Bounds books (E.M. Bounds on Prayer); I looked and it does have the one you mentioned. That one is still unread. We used to take trips on Hwy 395 and I miss that drive and all the mountain hikes we did along the way. Such a beautiful area!

You would have to really want to know about Paul to get through that book! I should probably do a review of it here on KZbin. I don't think I would have gotten through it if it were not for having a buddy read. The travel parts were interesting but the summaries of letters he wrote were somewhat boring to me, but I still thought it was all necessary, and the author teaches about these things and knows the history of the region. It did help me understand Paul much better, and appreciate him more! The EM Bounds book is amazing... I'm enjoying it so much! It was written for pastors. (I am not a pastor but I like it anyway!) Yes, 395 is the way to go if you need to travel north or south in California these days! What a great drive!

Thanks for coming by to leave a comment, Angie. I'm hoping the book won't break my heart. Van Gogh was such a great talent; it saddens me that he had such a hard road in life.

Love Power through Prayer by E. M. BOUNDS, it's a classic, probably read it 5 or 6 decades ago. Thst's a good reason to keep good books, may want to read it agsin!!

Judy... you can get classic books for Kindle for free! From Gutenberg-dot-org you can get a lot of free classics. I am reading a Kindle copy of Power Through Prayer. I looked at HM Bounds' Wikipedia page and WOW... he wrote a lot of books about prayer!!! I'm inspired. Prayer was his "thing" in life. I actually bought a very inexpensive Kindle book called "7 Classics on Prayer" including books by DL Moody, Andrew Murray, George Muller and Rosalind Goforth! The cost is only $2.99. This should keep me busy for a while, since I love to read books about prayer.

Keep some tissues near by when you read Old Yeller and the book about Van Gogh, both are stories that have sad parts. I had a chance to buy Old Yeller and I didn't buy it but I wish I did. It is hard to read a sad book but a sad book really stays on your mind and in a way I really like it. I love the book Black Beauty. It has a part that is very sad that I will never forget. It is one of my favorite books. I hope you enjoy the books you will read this month.

Thank you - I've finished reading Old Yeller now but not The Letters of Vincent Van Gogh. The more I read about Van Gogh, the more I like and respect him! Black Beauty - it has been a long time since I read that!! Maybe it is time for another read-through.

Interesting mix of books. Of course the Van Gogh one appeals to me. Well done for getting through the Paul book. I’m sure you felt a sense of achievement when you finished it. 😊

I'm looking forward to that Van Gogh book. I looked through it and there are some illustrations he sent to his brother! It is mind-boggling to me to know he was only 33 when he ended his brief life, but he was so productive during those years! I saw an exhibit of his art in San Francisco when I was about 18 and was amazed at how much there was! I was already a fan of his before the exhibit. The Paul book ... I don't know if I felt a sense of accomplishment so much as a sense of relief!! It was fascinating, but a little too scholarly for me in places. Still the author's observations were often new ideas for me and I appreciated getting to know Paul better.
