This video really caught my interest, I was stationed in Germany back in the early 1980's. And my very first German food was Currywurst from a street vendor outside of my hotel in Wiesbaden. Later I was stationed in Mainz-Gonsenheim at what was then Lee Barracks. About nine months into my tour in Germany our unit moved to Rüsselsheim at Azbill Barracks. That location is now the Obermayr Europa-Schule. I had to travel a lot while in Germany to some of our units in Bremerhaven, Gießen, Fürth, and Kaiserslautern. So I sorta got to try food from those locations. I even attended the NATO School down in Oberammergau in Southern Germany it is very beautiful there. I'm 68 now but I would love to return to Germany for a vacation. This time with a digital camera which didn't exist back then. Your Curry sauce seems thicker than what I remember, but then the vendor used a squeeze bottle similar to ketchup bottles. Maybe he just used ketchup with curry powder in it. Too many years ago to be sure. But it has been 40 years so that is my excuse.

Some of the Sauces are still very thin, because they use ketchup instead of tomato paste. Here in Germany we sell tomato ketchup with curry as well 😉

I was TDY at Rammstein AB almost twenty years ago and I discovered currywurst in Landstuhl. Needless to say, I loved it and ate it as often as possible. I’ve never tried making it but this just may be the motivation I need to introduce my family to this amazing meal. BTW, my maternal grandfather was from Berlin, and although he died when mom was 14, we never ate German food. Shame.

Currywurst mit pommefrits was my favourite German food while I was stationed in Napier Barracks, Dortmund 1967-1970 where I was attached to one of the two RA Regiments in the camp. The lady vendor had permission to drive round the camp and she stopped at every block just as the pubs were closing. Later I was posted to Mönchengladbach 1970-1973 but the street vendors there made the currywurst with different recipes and were not as nice as the lady's back in Dortmund.

Omg! I was working in Leck, Germany 40 years ago and fell in food love with a street food that a local vendor made! At the time, with my limited German and his limited American we discovered something that I could eat, and ask him for! I don't know how to spell it, but the only way I could ask for it was....... I will try to Phonetically spell it...... Shash-Lick. All I know is that it was some kind of pork on a skewer and grilled over a fire, seasoned with something wonderful, placed into a small paper food "boat" and the most wonderful sauce I've ever had poured all over the top! I know that it had some curry in it though because I know most of my spices! I'm thinking that it had to be something like your "currywurst" sauce? I would love to know what you think that was ? I've tried for years to duplicate and I've never even gotten close! My family and friends think I'm crazy! Please help! Clueless and hungry in Alabama
