Curse of Strahd | DMs Guide | Van Richten's Tower

In our game van richton was more of a myth or urban legend. We often compared him to Santa, sure the guides were real but it was more of a complications of wise hunters... then we met the man at the tower and that was great. Most the party: HOLY SHIT ITS HIM! Me in character: Guys it's Rictovio he's just scamming us some how.

My party has been using this tower as a base for a while now. We even modified the wagon to have spikes on the wheels and more.

Thank you for doing this it helps a lot. I am changing this particular part by a lot. Story and everything. I have Khavan as a artificer who helped build the castle. He is working with the hags to get souls to power a great machine that is meant break out of this realm of dread.

Thanks a lot for the great video. I am dm'ing Curse of Strahd right now for my players. I had a really busy day today and your video helped me a lot preparing todays session a lot faster. Very nice explanation of the stuff going on and also some tips how to handle stuff and maybe swapping some events. I am considering the barovian witches, they sound interesting as an encounter :D

I'm totally taking the Barovian witch idea. Thanks! In my campaign, they are meeting Rictavio here, likely getting a bit of a lore dump and them moving on to Argynvostholt. Unless of course they crash the tower. They probably will have Ezmerelda with them so no reason to deal with the exploding wagon.

I undid the anti magic barrier. My party has two wereravens, and a magic carpet. They didn’t even look at the door before flying up and breaking into the windows. I wasn’t expecting them to head this route I wish I would have filled it with more interesting stuff. I left one of Van Richten’s journals in there with some Rumors about the Abbot in Krezk. All in all it was a success in my opinion. It was a fun time, but kind of a dud. My players have had a bunch of mysterious fantasy elements but this was just an empty tower essentially. It was a nice change of pace.

@@NoFunAllowed I love the werewolf events ideas. I rolled to see where Esmeralda is on the map and she is at Argynvostholt hiding out from the Vistani and Strahd. While Rictavio is under a new guise in Krezk as a traveling herbalist because he was forced to reveal himself while Vallaki was assaulted by Strahd’s forces. I love the skeleton of the world, but I’ve added a lot of my own storytelling and world building elements. Your videos help inspire me to play around with it more!

I'm make Khazan and Exchanter the same litch. Exchanter/kazan died when he tried to become a demi litch to mentally escape the realm and came back using his phylactory but without his memory due to the event.

I'm currently DMing CoS and the party just arrived in this tower only to have the reckless thief killed by the explosion. They left imediatly in order to ressurrect him with the Abbot. Now I wonder if the Werewolf encounter should occur and how. They ignored pretty much everything related to werewolves so far and run from howls like Tatyana from Strahd.

Haven't fully watched the vid or finished the book but thinking about having van Richten in the castle. They get the tip to go there to find him once they read his journal in the tower. There you find him and he will have the tome of strahd. This is how the players aquire it. Got inspired to do this after getting the I,Strahd book. Is this a viable option?
