I saw this helicopter at the Moscow Helicopter Expo. Very impressive. They had pretty girls giving out info cards. I hope it goes into production.

I suppose the other option would be to take a cue from the Russian Alligator attack copter - blow off the rotorblades and then pop the chute. But the top of the rotor is a great place to keep the chute. (For those who might not know - the Alligator is the only copter with ejection seats).

If you look at the cruise speeds of the Enstrom 480B, Robinson R66, and Bell 505X, then I'd say that 110kts is pretty competitive. It's the "only 2 seats for $500,000" which is the hardest part to justify. As well, factory support or proven capabilities (like the rugged rotor of the Enstrom) help tip things out of favor on this new ship. Still, I appreciate the innovation and movement toward a safer (feeling) flying experience. I wonder what the flight range would be, given the high hourly fuel consumption of the turbine and the limited capacity for Jet-A storage on such a small aircraft.

Its funny that you mention the 64 longbow. I had the idea of a parachute from the 64 before I knew of the Curti. The MD500 series use a static shaft so you can use the internals of it for the rocket or deployment mechanism. I was thinking more of a UFO flying saucer shape, flatter but wider to accommodate for a round parachute where the top half pops off. We will see. Also the speed of a helicopter is determined by the rotors more than the power plant. With a 2 bladed rotor, even semi-articulated, the retreating blade makes less lift the fast you go putting the retreating side into a stall. Having more blades minimizes this. Also an Articulated rotor also allows for leading and lagging of the blades as well as flapping.

If they came up with a parking garage system that lets you land on the roof in a major city, it then takes your helo into the garage and stores it, while you go in about your business in that city, would be great.

I thought about this. The rent on the helicopter storage would take up the top floors where the rent is usually $$$. Its a cool technical proposition. But an iffy economical situation.

The parachute is nice because how many times have we seen Robbies cut their own tails off from mast bumping? Saw one last month in Texas where she and the veterinarian student pilot might have lived had they had this helo as even though their robbie cit its tail off the main rotor and shaft stayed intact and it didn't roll over until the main rotor blade was damaged. This would most likely have saved them both so as a helo pilot myself I'm all for the ugly bump even though it will be criticized much like the fixed wing cirrus as having pilots with fewer skills when they can just pull the chute. Mocking chutes on cirrus aircraft seems to be the cool online thing to do but let's face it even if it is poor piloting that results in chute deployment the fewer general aviation fatalities we incur the keys likely the media and congress go after General aviation.

I would much rather autorotate. Good training, experience, and pilot practice, good pilot skill, good discipline and good safety decisions, including scrutinous and uncompromising pre-flight inspections, cannot be replaced by any amount of money or equipment in an emergency, or more importantly in the prevention of emergency. Conservation and management of main rotor rpm inertia is the key to controlled autorotation descent and landing. The weight, complication, profile drag, and un-steer-ability of the parachute are a no-go for me. In other words, if I have to crash, I'd rather crash with an autorotation than with a parachute. ... Also, by the way, I adore the two seat Curti Zefhir, as I am a single seat Experimental Category turbine engine helicopter owner and pilot.

They can make the rotor mast bump proof., Bell Helicopters back in the 1960s could have retrofitted the UH-1, Huey. but the Army decided against it because of the cost. and concentrated on teaching pilots to avoid situations where mast bumping could occur. Perhaps they made the rotor so it can't mast bump.

@RelativeMotionCC
@RelativeMotionCC 3 жыл бұрын
Can’t disagree, I think the price would make more sense with a three or four bladed rotor, maybe in their heads the parachute is worth that much… but I don’t think your going save much on insurance with a parachute, unless someone is willing to write you a special policy. If they helicopters come out though and have a good track record because of the chute they might lower the insurance rate. 🤷‍♂️

@@RelativeMotionCC I took an oath to my flag, the red, white and blue in my lands of the free. We must at all times have the truth and only the truth. 'The fact that this is the only helicopter with a parachute'? Since the 1990s, the Czech company Stratos 07 has been developing parachutes and rescue systems for helicopters, gliders and light aircraft that rely on Twaron® to provide a safer flight experience Yes we can easily find so many helicopters out there today who have had parachutes onboard for like a decade? And Russian helicopters have had them for much, much longer? You know what is the most unsafe world you can imagine? A world of lies ... And you are trying to make one. So I will stand with my flag ready to fight for the truth.

@@MrFlatage You didn't list one specific helicopter model in this entire dissertation. So if you do know of a specific model? I'd be interested to hear it. Especially a Russian helicopter? I'm actually trying to build a community of fun enthusiasts who share passions. To say im trying to build a world of lies seems a little extreme... 😬 I never intentionally lied in this video, Curti claims this is the first helicopter with a parachute, while not totally true I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. To my knowledge because it's the only fully integrated parachute that I know of. GRS offers a parachute for some small helicopters but is not close to the same system and can cause damage just deploying the chute. It seems like this Stratos 07 System is similar but I have never seen/heard of a helicopter with one 🤷‍♂️
@MrFlatage
@MrFlatage 2 жыл бұрын
@@RelativeMotionCC Yes well a man who stands for his word? Is never fun for someone who changes their words. But you are right GRS does not specify a type cos it technically fits all light helicopters. Videos of test deployments show they used a invisible helicopter ofcourse. You can buy kits to integrate or add on external kits. I am sure you would never use the system in the crash because you may damage your helicopter falling to the ground? You disabled all the airbags in your car? KA-52 intentionally damages itself just before the pilots eject to safety. They love their explosive bolts. I know passing things off as fact because you mention it is? Comes with Onus Probandi. I gave my word to serve and protect that. No option for me to edit, change or take back my word to my flag. P.S do you know of a specific car model that uses wheels? I cannot seem to figure it out, lol.

If autorotation is possible I would certainly prefer it to having my bird hit, what looked like pretty hard, than letting it land on the BRS as seen in the beginning. That doesn’t make the BRS any less important but a good pilot can autorotate all day long.

The only true "SAFE" helicopter is one that doesn't leave the ground. There are inherent risks to ANY flight machine. Why do you think military pilots are given 'flight pay?' It's not because they're pretty, I can assure you of that. Commercial pilots demand superior salaries as well. I'm +76 years old, former military and civil pilot, and know of NO type of aircraft that hasn't suffered some type of malfunction somewhere along its lifespan.

There is no such thing as the safest helicopter in the world. What makes a helicopter safe is the skill of the pilot and a bank account that gives you no excuse to cut corners on scheduled maintenance. Parachutes are a 50/50 proposition. But the easiest Helicopter to fly is a modified Enstrom helicopter by Segway , yeah a 10 minute learning curve, FAA says certification is totally out of the question. Sorry Charlie.
