Klopp's team was insanely consistent when firing on all cylinders and it worked, it was succesful. I'm not having all this criticism of Klopp and talking like things are suddenly even better now when we have not even played a competitive game yet. I'd rather have a miserable Curt Jones and a very competitive and effective team than a soppy, grinning Curt Jones and mid-table football and zero trophies. I'm not predicting that's what's going to happen but right now we just don't know.

Liverpool had a major problem conceding the first goal in games since 2022 which hadn't been rectified. Let's also not be rose tinted about the Klopp era like everything was perfect. There have been pundits observing similar view points about the quick turn over in the the midfield area. So this is a very revealing piece of information from a Liverpool player that will be the biggest difference what slot will be aiming to change in the team. Wherever this improves Liverpool back to what they were in 19/20 time will tell. The Klopp body of work at Liverpool is legendary but there is room for improvement which he was already in the process of fixing and him choosing to leave.

@@LordHighnessYou can not have it with the Klopp criticism all you like, but Klopp had major tactical issues his last few years that he couldn’t completely resolve, and I think ignoring that he had issues his last few seasons tactically is just as bad as pretending he was the perfect manager just because he took the team to absolute glory. People that ignore someone’s faults and glorify them 100%, aren’t better than people who can be honest and still point out the problems despite the success.

So what l can read from this interview is that: 1. Curtis feels Arne Slot style of play of controlling games in midfield and dictating play favours him very well. In a kind way, he didn't like Klopp style because in Klopp style it is more about running winning ball back and being very direct which clearly he didn't like. 2. Curtis wants to start every game for Liverpool and prove himself I personally think most midfielders we have are technically very good and would very much produce under Arne Slot. Like Mac Allister very good on the ball and able to dictate play will also enjoy the style pretty much

It's okay being all smiles and being relieved that you're going to have a less hectic time playing in midfield for Liverpool, but Klopp's style worked. Not only was it exciting football to watch but it brought trophies to the club. I am not being negative because I am optimistic for good things under Slot but this is an uncertain time in which we don't know yet how successful this new era is going to be. I've read many of the comments here and seen many that are critical of Klopp and his playing style. Again, it worked and brought success to the club. I don't understand many of the comments. I like Curt but how happy he is with his new role is secondary to me to how competitive Slot's Liverpool is going to be. I'd rather we win trophies and Curtis Jones is moaning than have a beaming Curt Jones and no trophies. The jury is still out.
@dundalis

Klopps style only worked when it had pressing monster all over the pitch. Because it’s utterly reliant on an elite counter press. Thinking it just works because it’s a good system is naive. Klopp had pressing monsters like Mane, Firmino, Gini and Hendo before he lost his legs that he subsequently lost. They were replaced with more technical players not similar pressing monsters (and Curtis is one of those more technical players). So inevitably, our performance dropped off the last few years. If we were going to have any success with Klopps style moving forward either he’d have to go out and replace our players with pressing monsters to replace the ones we lost or Klopp would have to completely change his style anyway. Klopp was tinkering like hell with our system the last two years because he obviously knew this was a problem. Acknowledging Klopps success doesn’t mean you have to put the blinders on to his tactical issues the last few years.

It worked when he had the right players. I wouldn't really say it worked after we lost Mane and Firmino, but also a prime Hendo, Gini and so... Feel like it was going downwards with Klopp and it required very specific pressing players. I wouldn't say his style "just worked". Just my opinion

Slot was being cheeky when he said he played 4-3-3 Yes, they play 3 midfielders, but it is a system where if either fullback goes forward to make it a front five of LW, CF, RW, MF and the FB, the other FB comes forward to make a 3 in midfield with the two CB behind. The formation creates a 2-3-5 and defending drops into a 4-4-2.

I can't see that suiting the Premiership, but hope I'm wrong. Teams who play slowly against Man City, get dominated. We've always had our best results against City when all out pressing them. @@LordHighness agreed what I'm talking about was what I was saying about most of Klopps sides well before Arne was ever mentioned. The year we won the title our defence was solid and our midfield was hard working. The spine of Ali, Virgil, Matip, Hendo, Fab, Wijnaldum was as tough to break down as it got. With the full backs flying and the forwards creating it was an amazing team. The last 2 or 3 years those players moved on and the side got more and more attacking but we lost the control of the midfield. It's finding the balance that is key. Controlling more of the ball could be a good thing for the side but we must also not lose too much dynamism with it. I prefer to see the ball in the back of the opposition net, than our players just holding onto the ball for the sake of it. I hope Slot isn't going down the typical slow and ponderous Dutch route because I'm not sure that's going to take the Premier League by storm.
