One of the last episodes of Bargain Hunt featuring the wonderful David Barby. In this episode he goes hunting for the "glammy wammy" objects of the 1940's with musicians Daniel and Laura Curtis. Copyright BBC.

Ive watched so many repeats on TV I hadn't even realised he had passed away, 10 years since he passed. What a lovely man.

My father and I were one of the teams in original Bargain Hunt with Barby has our expert. We brought back a mirror which DD was not so pleased about but DB said, quite genuinely, that he loved it. I asked him if he really liked it, to which he affirmed "Oh! Yes!" I replied "We're doomed!" His answer was a jovial, "You bastard!"

Because the BBC repeat so many of their antiques/quiz shows for so many years, David Barby will live on in our lives for quite a while. From Bargain Hunt to Flog It, you'll continue to see his face. And I rather like that. Gives him the immortality that only TV and film can produce.

There was a time when BBCAmerica showed British television. This was one of my favorites. Unfortunately now we don't get to see them except if we happen to catch them here. So many fun memories of several of those like Bargain Hunt, Changing Rooms and others. 😊😊👋👋❤❤

I met David when Flog It visited llandudno some years ago, what a lovely chap. He is just as pleasant and charming in real life as he was on live television. He valued some of my very rare Staffordshire pieces. A really nice person who made you feel special and welcome.

23/03/2018. I'm here because I have just watched a repeat episode of 'Antigue's Road Trip' of 2012, when David turned up showing his terrible facial injuries , from his accident the day before. He later died from a brain hemmorrhage. Surely this was caused by his head injury from a few weeks before? Nobody I know of made that link. Strange.
@MrDannyDetail11 жыл бұрын
Just found out yesterday, because yahoo news were reporting it as if it just happened, but I then discovered it was exactly a year ago he died. So sad but I'm sure we will still be able to watch him on loads of repeated shows.

I got to know david from going to Locke & England in Leamington Spa, great gentleman, and could always have a laugh with him on and off the rostrum. My parents knew Philip Serrell through his auction house, we always talked about going on bargain hunt, with david and philip as the experts, but couldnt find a partner for me lol. David will be sadly missed by all

I think this was the show he had just finished filming a few days before his final illness began (see @CurtisandCoyne's comment), and I don't think it was transmitted prior to this tribute, so it was probably more poignant and fitting than just repeating an old episode with him in it.

Over a period of two years David appeared on Bargain Hunt with a badly bruised face(he looked as if he had been beaten up) Now we know that he died from an Intracerebral brain haemorrhage, the two sets of bruising were probably caused David falling because of a mini stroke. He was my favourite expert on Bargain Hunt.Always fun & jolly,never patronising,and always knowledgeable and incisive. Here is where he rests forever:~ www.findagrave.com/memorial/98047359/david-john-barby
