Kermit the best part of this video was the signed seat, and the fact you got to take those men up, maybe for there last flight in a p40, very cool,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Loving this - I flew T-6s for most of my life - and my dad, Duncan Broome flew Kittihawk IVs in North Africa in WW2, 76 years ago. So every detail of this great walkaround means a lot to me. Will be in Florida in September, so hope to drop in.

Ridgeview Warhawks High school, is my kids high school and their official mascot is WW2 P-40 Warhawk. It is fully restored and does fly overs of our football field on the 1st day of school and homecoming football games. It makes its home at a local WW2 flying museum, just down the road in Nampa, Idaho.

I visited the Cavanaugh Flight museum some years ago and met a WWII pilot there who was turning in his log books and personal items. He told me he flew P-40's in Africa during WWII. Curious,I asked him how he learned to fly and land the P-40 assuming they did not have dual controls back then. He told me that his instructor stood on the wing with him and gave him all the instructions on how to start it and general control operations. He told me that the instructor then went up into the tower and talked to him by radio through the take off and fly around in the traffic pattern and then giving him a detailed instructions and critique on landing. He said..." he talked me all the way though it and told me if I was high, fast, low or slow...". I have heard that was a common teaching practice back then. Absolutely amazing.

Had the pleasure of visiting FOF several years ago. There was a Lawson user conference that booked the place for a party. The band Boston was playing. While they were good, it was all the planes that held my fascination. I spent all evening going from plane to plane checking out all the different shapes and designs. The Connie was there as well as the DC3 pitched nose down. I assume that DC3 was too bad to rebuild? Great explanation and I'd love to visit again someday.

Can't wait for the take off! I've 'ridden' along with you on every flight video so far. I was stationed on Ford Island when they filmed Toro Toro Toro and got to visit the hangers where they stored the cars, planes, and silhouettes of planes. I am especially liking the 'mechanic's videos'! A great addition! Following the Benoit project now. I've visited your museum 4 times and took the behind scenes tours several times. I was crushed when you closed but understand why. I'm equally thrilled that you are, at least, partially back. Keep 'em flying, my friend.

I was the kid of a NASA Engineer. We were three famalies from VA moved to TX with space program in 1962. On of the other moters told me she worked in a P-40 factory in WW2. One night a new one came off the line and it was being test flown at night I believe. The engine quit so the test pilot bailed. The engine restarted after he left the airplane. She mentioned his name but I don't. Recall it. The fighter crashed into one of the buildings or building where people were building them. She said it killed 8 workers and the poor guy never got over it. Not a pleasant story but your video made me recall this as I was told it while in high school; prior to 1975 is when my dad retired.

Quick question about the fuel on board this bird. Does she have the 160 or 210 gallons of fuel total? That's if they had the drop tanks installed, with your bird does she have an hour or two less fuel available without the 75 gallon aux removed. How much flight time do you have available, if you don't mind me asking. I work for Mark Dilullo over at KCNO and have been fortunate enough to experience all of these beauties by working for him as a lineman. As well as do you have any videos on flying a T6C model or SNJ-4. I'm going to start flying one here shortly after the summer break and would like to see some more of your videos. Low time pilot trying to honor those just as yourself. Thank you for taking your time to share your passion and beautiful collection. Clear skies and tail winds, I hope to see your place someday. That's if it's still open to the public..

Noticed in the walk around that there were a number of air inlets or bleed ducts in the chin scoop. Correct me if I'm wrong, I am assuming that these are Carb air inlets each each leading to the carbs via different paths (via filters, heaters or straight in) and the lever in the cock pit controls which of these the air comes from??
@kat13man4 жыл бұрын
I also am a big fan of these videos. Thank you for them. I would also like to know what the aircraft is like to fly. For example, I read the P-40 was easy to stall and if you were hamfisted with it, you might find yourself in trouble. Is that true?

@Mythricia19887 жыл бұрын
I believe it's fairly standard on warbirds like this to take off, and land, with radiators open. Simply for safety, and so that the pilot doesn't have to worry about it during those parts, since they're much more difficult than with most airplanes (takeoff and landing killed many pilots in WWII). Also it's standard to takeoff and land with max RPM, which causes the engine to run hotter - thus it's even more important to open the radiators, so that the pilot can just forget about it and concentrate on the landing.
@jimjoe99452 жыл бұрын
@@Mythricia1988 land with max rpm?
@Mythricia19882 жыл бұрын
@@jimjoe9945 Standard procedure for many warbirds is to land with the prop RPM set high. The P51 Mustang pilots training manual I own states in the landing procedures checklist: "Prop control - forward to 2700 RPM". 2700 is the max continuous RPM. 3000 RPM is allowed for take-off only, and is reduced to 2700 at 500 feet.
