Ambrose had the height so he could pitch the ball on a good length which for any other bowler would not have been short but the ball would still rise up to batsmans chest.

I can't believe this package didn't include the throat ball that Curtly produced to have Graeme Wood caught in the gully on the first day of the 1988-89 Brisbane test. It was a lifter that put some of the ones depicted here to shame.

Did you ask those same questions when Lilee and Thompson tried to kill batsmen long before Ambrose came about? Bowlers with genuine pace were always like that and even today on quick wickets a quick pace bowler can hurt batsmen just the same
