you can get USB power banks that do "pass through power", so they can charge and be charged at the same time... not sure what models do it, but they're out there :) great video! always good to see what people take and what they wish they did or didn't bring...

thanks mate! I'll have a look for one. I can charge the ohone direct but I think it messes with the battery so it's not ideal

Thinkjng you like pink. Lol. Awesome gear and great vid, thanks. I am only jealous not having any pink Rapha. The shoes look a bit heavy, how were they on such ling days? Love your bike setup and look! Did you like the 1x or ever wish you had 2x?

Hi Kate, thanks for sharing! Did you have any sleeping equipment?
@katethefowler92935 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea, just the super small foam matt, which I didn't end up using - as the only time I slept out I slept on a random outdoor settee - and a waterproof bivy bag . I didn't have a sleeping bag, just a down jacket.

How do you find the 1x set up? I currently run 50/34 11/32 and realised I only really use a few gear combinations so looking to change to 1x for simplicity. I mainly ride audax style events looking to do events like trans Atlantic way and all points north

Hi Lee, the gear ratio was fine, but because the TAW is just constant rollers you are flipping through your cassette a lot when using a 1x. A 2x drivetrain would make it easier to quickly switch between high and low gears. Next time I'll likely go for a 48/32 chainring and 11-34 or 11-36 cassette. Normally I ride gravel so the 1x was more for after the TAW :-P

Thanks for the reply food for thought, I may have to try out a 1x system before I commit 🤔

@@leegarrett5469 if you can, definitely try before you buy. I personally love my 1x11 setups but they're definitely not for everyone. On the plus side, there's ease of use and maintenance. It's a sequential gearbox, and there's no front mech. No trimming, no clunky front shifts, no risk of losing your chain. Also, if you have a 'proper 1x' setup you'll have a clutch rear mech, which means your drivetrain is silent. And if you'd build yourself a Di2 1x11 setup you can set up your left shifter to mirror the right shifter (so you can shift with either hand) which can come in handy on long rides. But.. as Kate said, rolling hills == lots of shifting. Also, if you end up riding at the extreme ends of the cassette, your chain will wear faster. And lastly, you'll have to somewhat compromise between gear range and gear interval. If you want to have a bigger gear range, you'll end up with bigger gaps between the gears, and vice versa. If you're picky about cadence you'll probably get annoyed by those gaps, but I personally don't really mind. If you're generally not annoyed with a front mech, I'd go with a Shimano 2x11 setup using the Ultegra RX rear mech. If you change your mind you're just a narrow-wide chainring away from a proper 1x11 setup, it'll easily take an 11-36 cassette, and it allows you to switch back and forth between 1x11 and 2x11 as you please.

Good combo guys is the Shimano GXR with a 48/31 CS and the RD can take a sprocket up to 40
