Interesting episode. I think in time you will come to realise that the Y valve was a mistake. It’s much similar to have all toilet waste going through the tank. Which also keeps the tank cleaner and prevents any dirt solidifying in it, which means it also reduces future smells.. . Also, eventually the outlets will eventually have a build up of calcium which requires removing the pipes to unblock / replace. You now have twice as many pipes as necessary. Re fridge / freezer. Great idea. That’s what I have recently done as well. Saves a lot of work in making a percent one and saves on maintenance costs when unit breaks down.

Thanks for your comments Ted, appreciated, I agree re. toilet that what eventuates over time remains to be seen/experienced,... but I also think that the Y valve gives another dispose option/redundancy in the event of any tank problems and whenever overboard discharge is allowed that I would always be emptying the tank and btw the Y valve does not double the hose lengths, it only adds one at 1metre. Yes pipe blocking problems will happen requiring cleaning and replacement, this is unavoidable with ALL flushing boat toilets! Good to hear that you are happy with your portable fridge-freezer change 🙂👍🏻

I always love to get your new episode, and this one doesn't disappoint. So much progress, and so much more fine workmanship! 👍 The head installation will be a major milestone, and allow me to correct your definition of the nautical term "head". You said it means "bathroom", but it actually means "toilet", and doesn't necessarily include bathing facilities. A "head" is a toilet on a boat that can include a shower. A bathroom without a toilet is a bathroom, not a head.

You always keep to high standards like the boat surveyor said. I love your attention to every detail. I find it wonderfully paradoxical that there is so much beautiful woodwork on a steel boat !

Hi Bruce, I suspect replacing your fridge freezer when it goes on the fritz will be a darn site easier than dealing with some of those under bench built in versions when their compressors give up.😊

So true! I guess it all depends on capacity over the long run; ĥow does the portable freezer compare with its fixed equivalent? I might have another idea - how about putting the biggest feasible freezer in a different location, ìdealy as close as possible to the galley itself, perhaps even beneath the cabinsole? 0:05 to get down to floor level yourself via the utility of a pick-up stick! As a handicapped person, I make use of whatever works for me, and so I use my 'grabber' wand at least once a day! Adaptability seems to be to be the word for life afloat I find! 5 Bruce, with every episode I look to check ìf you have even made a start on finishing that unsightly part of the cabin with the sprayed-on foam. On a B737 it would be the overhead lockers. It would be great to know what your intentions are for this task? The toilet 🚻 is looking ĝreat but I think you will be needing an intensive certification course for your visitors! May I suggest one minor addition to your toilet ? This would be for a small and discreetly placed container for female sanitary items. Believe me, once is too much for unblocking your macerator! This all being said, almost anything is a 💯 improvement on that ultimate abomination of all things sanitation viz. composting toilets ! 🤯😵💫🥵

Hi Chris and thanks for your good comments, appreciated and yes indeed, this portable fridge-freezer really is too easy, ha! Fyi the built in unit's compressor will be separate from the cabinet and very easy to access and attend to any problems along the way 🙂👍🏻

Toilet hoses look very industrial. Space is tight, any plans to cover [conduit box cover] or possibly mount on the opposite side (rear of the existing mounting point)? Leaving the control valve exposed. Currently done of ease of installation and servicing. Coming along nicely.
@BuildingSYMistress5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comments Roland, appreciated, I don't have any concerns/dislikes about the 'industrial' look of the plumbing install and yes, I do prefer the ease of access for this, which will require maintenance over time and fyi the other side of that bulkhead is the nav. and electronics space, as you say, 'space is tight', on all boats! 🙂👍🏻

Hi, just come across your channel. I'm completing a 40ft solar powered catamaran and hope to get on to the plumbing side around mid-August so this episode was timely. From everything I've seen so far, through-hulls seem to be the only way to take on raw water and get rid of waste. I didn't want to install any through hulls just to reduce the chance of leaks. I haven't installed a water maker yet as the solar roof will offer some opportunity to capture rainwater and use it. As far as waste goes, does anybody have a waste outlet that is above the waterline on the side of the hulls, maybe near the transom, to which you could attach a length of hose with a click connector and pump the waste out, obviously with the connected hose underneath the water? Does your waste tank empty purely by the action of gravity? My toilets are freshwater flushed Jabsco 24v 580X0 series with a CAK Tanks holding tank. I need to have a good look at the installation instructions of the Jabsco toilets before designing the system. Thanks for the video and happy building.

Hi Alan and thanks for your good comments and questions, appreciated - I don't know of any yachts that have above waterline waste through hull valves and re. pumping out through one sited as such, if a pump was being used then the outlet could be sited per typical, eg. on a deck. Yes, Mistress' holding tank empties by both gravity and with the macerator pump pressure, with the exception of when it's being externally pumped out. All the best with your cat. build 🙂👍🏻
