This is going to be insane, can't wait to see it finished.

Side mounts looks good.
@APEngineering3 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! Yeah it cam out better than the passenger side. I will need to redo it because my welds are pretty bad ...
@friscostreetstories54033 жыл бұрын
@@APEngineering If you redo them, consider leave them unpainted. In my opinion they will look nicer.
@APEngineering3 жыл бұрын
Leaving mild steel unpainted will get rusted pretty quickly. If ever I redo them in stainless I will certainly leave them raw.

You are doing a good job on this project, it will be worth the effort, take a look at the VR6 in a Mercedes swap that we performed in 2017 that chassis presented similar challenges and solutions, keep rolling....

Great job, what a beautiful machine. What brand plasma table? What size is it? Did it come with software? Thanks.
@APEngineering4 жыл бұрын
The table is from Langmuir Systems. The plasma itself is a Everlast 80s

Why tig ? Surely mig quicker and easier
@APEngineering2 жыл бұрын
I agree ! But I only have a tig ... and I definitely need the practice as you can see in the "quality" of my welds

Simply amazing! What thickness plates have you used for them? I will try fabricating engine mounts for an M52 BMW engine in an FC3S chassis soon. :) Thanks a lot for your help!
@APEngineering4 жыл бұрын
I used 1/4'' plate because I already had it on hand, but it is definetly overkill. But I rather it being overkill than underkill ! Especially with my rookie welder skills.
@pitesy4 жыл бұрын
@@APEngineering thanks a lot for getting back to me! Was really helpful on what material to use. 1/4" is ca. 6mm, I was going to use 5mm, but have my fabricator friend finish the welds for me (I am a rookie welder, not you, haha). :)
@APEngineering4 жыл бұрын
@@pitesy 5mm will be fine ! This was my first real welding project since I bought my welder one year ago so I do still consider myself a rookie, but I am getting better with every project !
@pitesy4 жыл бұрын
@@APEngineering thank you for the confirmation! I won't doubt the choice of thickness anymore. I am also welding sometimes, but only with flux core - it is less than optimal, but gets the job done for the little things.
@HokKan3 жыл бұрын
Good shit, love this series and listening to your explanations and thought processes from your narration. You can get better welds if you run a wire wheel on the metal and do an acetone wipe. I think you also need to run higher amperage and have the tungsten closer to the root of the weld. How many amps are you running on those welds?
@APEngineering3 жыл бұрын
Thanks alot ! I definitely need to work on my welds, this is one of my first projects so I need more practice. I sandblasted my mounts once they were tacked together, so some blast media got stuck between the plates and caused splatter when welding. I will need to redo these mounts later on once the rest is fitted.

@@APEngineering ahh I see. I've always wanted to do an E30 VR6 swap. Didn't think mounting would be so difficult though. Like getting the oil pan to clear and mounting the driver side of the engine...

What adapter are you using to bolt the trans to the motor? Also what trans are you using?
@APEngineering3 жыл бұрын
I am using a custom adapter plate that I designed and fabricated. The trans is a stock E30 Getrag 260 transmission.

@@APEngineering Sounds good, I started swapping a Touareg motor into my E36 last month. Glad to see someone else doing this! I’m working with a friend to create the trans adapter, I’m using the 420g 6 speed from an E46 M3.

any chance you still have the CAD/ DXF file for the passenger side plate that bolts to the block? If so could you email it to me? It'd be much appreciated, I'm trying to build a bottom mount that comes off the subframe on my Jetta. Thanks
