I’m new to trying to paint cars with a technique other than just one color which sometimes can get mundane. When I saw this video I was flabbergasted with the way this model turned out. I’m a new fan of this modeler’s work. Watch this video and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

I had an SUV that I did a bit of customization to when I was younger and I always loved old school flame paint jobs. I learned that this is exactly the same process. I went to an automotive paint store and found they had some ridiculously thin width tape to do this, and doing the layout you use one hand to hold and push the tape firmly and the other as the one doing the moving up or down.. etc. just like you are doing. I did just the flame outline one Saturday morning over the entire SUV, and I was so mad at myself…. It was a silver SUV and the tape was a lime green in color and it looked awesome. So much so that I didn’t want to take it off! I was still paying on the SUV so I didn’t do any modification that couldn’t be undone. Especially something like paint…. I sucked (and still do) at just about every form of paint. I think I just left it on for a few days and removed it. It’s cool to see it’s the same technique no matter the scale. Maybe I’ll try to do it on my old toolbox or something.

So I have started to learn how to airbrush lexan rc bodies. Learned a lot but now I’m into racing rc cars that are hard bodies so painting will be different. I have been wondering how to make flames for a 1/28th size car and you just showed me the way. I have been searching for a hot min on how to do it and this video did it for me. Thank you so much on showing how these are done properly. I am so excited to do paint again.

Very cool! I'd probably cut into my body trying to cut the tape off my car. Delicate touch for sure. I should try it on a scrap body 1st! LOL

Vinyl pinstripe tape is just as thin, seals to the body better, and is easier to remove cleanly.
@mattyscustomscale Жыл бұрын
Benefit of 3M painters tape is adhesion is not too strong that it pulls the paint off when removed

Good stuff, that first blue pearl sprayed on looks quite patchy and heavy in places. Did you spray with an airbrush or a mini 0.8mm tip mini gun. Awesome skills on the fiddly masking
@mattyscustomscale Жыл бұрын
It was sprayed with an air brush with a 0.5mm tip. There are 2 things making it look patchy - the direct light brings out the Pearl while shadows keep it dark, and there are areas where the masking pulled the Pearl off the black which I went back & repaired

Nice job on the flame work, all this is very helpful for me to start my own. Just one thing , what did you do or use for the black outlines on the flames?? Thanks again!
@mattyscustomscale2 жыл бұрын
The body is painted in a black base, so taping the lines over it and painting everything else, leaves the black under the lined tape

when i started watching i thought it was going to be quite mediocre but i was totally wrong. thats an awesome job and i am definitely going to give it a go. ive seen other videos about flames but this is the best, you explained it perfectly. a question please. what size tip did you use to shoot the flake. thanks.
