It's a common misconception that the V-wing lands like it does in the video. It does land like this in legends material, but in canon (yes, even in Episode III itself) it uses the wings as landing gear. Maybe you guys could redesign it, because it might fix a lot of the issues you had (the brittle landing gear mostly).

You can also see that in action in RotS, when they land next to the Emperor's shuttle on Coruscant, but they're sort of tiny in shot, and with the rain and all that it's a little hard to see at first. Then again, I actually prefer the way the wings fold here, like the concept art shows.

It's very hard to see, but they do the same in RotS as well, in the scene where the Emperor's shuttle lands at the hospital. Rather than the radiator wings both folding forward, as this model and some of the official toys do, the whole assembly rotates so that the wings stay lined up.

I attempted to build this set, and here is my review: I struggle to express how disappointed I am with this set. Do not be fooled by all the people in the comments of these videos talking about how cool it looks, because that doesn’t matter. The vast majority of commenters have not attempted to BUILD the set. I built with completely brand new pieces, the instructions are unbelievably complicated, and the build is completely flimsy. If you breathe on this thing, pieces WILL fly off. The heat sinks protecting the Astromech? They’re attached by faith. Those dishes with the conical hats attached on the wings? Not a chance of those staying on. The blasters are not tight and cannot be posed, they just flop down with gravity, and it boggles my mind how they are posable in this video because they’re not held by anything. Good luck getting those four panels connected properly to create the triangular wedge shape, I have never been able to figure it out. The wing folding function barely works. I cannot stress this enough, this set is unbelievably difficult to build, and completely unintuitive. If you are brand new to LEGO or custom instructions DO NOT start with this one, and you may not want to bother with this set at all. Someone else in the comments talked about how difficult the build was, and how you had to “trust the process.” Well, I tried to trust it on two separate attempts to build, and it still doesn’t come together properly. “Expertly designed” is not remotely true. “Surprisingly robust” no, not at all? I don’t know how they can say “I wouldn’t call it delicate.” Did they glue the thing? Because I don’t know how this will ever stay in one piece without glue. If you want hours of frustration I guess this is the set for you. Seriously, it’d be one thing if they were honest and stated that this is not an easy set to build. I have bought several other instructions from Brick Vault, and now I am extremely concerned that the rest will be as poor as this one.

I’ve wanted to build this awhile and finally did yesterday. Some thoughts: 1. The instructions could be better. There were some places where the orientation/position of bricks is not clear and took some heavy guesswork/retracing to get it right. This was especially the case when building the round part of the fuselage. 2. You have to trust the process somewhat. There were some points putting it together where it was very wobbly or the gears weren’t working and it made me very unsure I had put it together correctly. I just had to run with it and hope it came together. It did, but not without some heartache and worrying. 3. The end result looks really good. I have a feeling the designer might do some things differently today vs 3 years ago, but this one still holds up. It’s very nicely zoomable (if you hold it right) and looks cool on the stand.
@mathiasgreyjoy16115 ай бұрын
I attempted to build this set as well. 1. "The instructions could be better." Uhh, absolutely, in some places they are just unbelievably complicated. 2. "You have to trust the process somewhat." I've tried to build this thing twice and can't figure it out. It's incredibly flimsy even after being fully completed, some parts are held on by faith. The four panels that make up the nose are impossible to fit together. 3. "The end result looks really good." I sure wish I could agree but there is no end result, because the thing is impossible to build. Every time I am left wit ha mess, and nothing but hours and hours of frustration. I really hope this set is an outlier, and that it's just particularly bad, and that I was unlucky to start with it. I have bought several other instructions from Brick Vault, and now I am extremely concerned that the rest will be as poor as this one. Maybe Thomas Jenkins is just not a very good builder, and others like Jerac are much better. I can only hope.
@zt70885 ай бұрын
@@mathiasgreyjoy1611 my memory of the build isn’t great anymore, but I definitely feel your pain when doing the rotating portion. That was the toughest part for me. And I also remember being frustrated trying to click the ball joints of the nose in place while also not being able to apply a lot of force to get them in. Their older models suffered from unclear instructions and weak connections that were probably normal then. It was 3 or 4 years old when I built it. Now I think the expectation is to be able to treat it a bit more roughly and more like an actual Lego set. Though, the set has held up fine as a desk ornament since completion but I confess I only take off the stand to fly it around every now and then.

It looks really good but the landing mode is incorrect, if you look at ROTS very closely when Palpatine lands on Coruscant there is one V-wing that lands behind his shuttle and it shows the entire wing formation moving as one with the guns rotating downwards. Also those red cone pieces do actually exist in the dark red colour.
