Using the Epson F6200 and a 32x40 pneumatic heat press. When it comes to choosing a printer I bias towards Epson. It's the only brand we own and haven't had any issues with it. So I would recommend something like the EPson SureColor F170. This is basically a desktop version of my printer. You will be able to print up to 8.5"x47.2". As far as a heat press I would suggest a 16x20 inch heat press. You don't need anything special just make sure you get something that has consistent heating, you can find some good used ones on places like OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, DTF is a different print process and won't work on the metal panels. You need sublimation ink to get it to fuse with the metal.

Can you print on both sides? Walgreens, Shutterfly, etc. don't seem to offer that as an option and that's what I need.

You can print on the backside but because there isn't a white gloss coating you will get a duller finish. Normally you would only print stuff like your website or text on the back.

The print may get distorted, I have never tried it tough. They do make pre-curved glass panels that I have seen.

How long will your custom metal prints last outside ? The goal is to find a process whereby the print will survive and not fad in the cold, hot, humid, rain, and direct sunlight. Thank you I just had a print down at Costco, on to metal. Costco claims it will last two years outside in direct sunlight

We are currently doing a test here in Deep South Florida. We've had some sublimated license plates & signs on our fence that get half day direct sunlight for about 3 months now and haven't seen any fading as of yet!

It depends on the types on panels you are printing on, Outdoor UV panels will last up to 5 years according to the manufacturer. The weather will definitely play a role so I'd say closer to 3 years to be safe.

If you only have a 16x20 heat press but want to print on a much larger panel, would you be able to accomplish this with the same heat press but just shifting the media? or do you really REALLY need a larger heat press.. IE, i want to print a 32x48 panel, that would be at minimum 2x3 tiled presses in my head (I don't have any of this equipment yet but i'm planning ahead!)

The issue you would have would be whats called ghosting. If the print shifts during the printing process you may get a blurry effect in your image. Even temperature and pressure on the panel is key to getting a good print result. I'm all about saving money and trying to use what we have to make it work, but if you wanna do anything large with sublimation it's go big or go home if you want good consistent results.

@@brothersgrimm1230 your press settings are going to depend on the manufacturer of the panel. I press mine at 400 degrees, anywhere from 75-120 seconds depending on the size using light pressure.
