My in laws owned a house in Barbados for 30+ years. Absolutely beautiful country, with wonderful people. I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that I’ve played a Gibson, from the golden era, in all the time I spent there, but most guitars I did touch down there, definitely didn’t react well to the weather on the island. Always warped or humidity damaged. The handmade South American guitars were fantastic. Most other imports not so much. In 2024, air conditioning is prevalent. In 1990, it was still a luxury. There’s likely a shortage of qualified techs also. Most of the guitars sold are at their version of Sam’s Club. I’d, personally, have that one checked over before I bought it.

Trogly, my friend, I've been a guitar player for 33 years. And I've NEVER wanted a Gibson. I love epiphone. But never understood the thing about Gibsons. But I've been watching your show for 2 years now, and NOW I find myself looking for a Gibson. Ya talked me into it. And no one has EVER changed my mind about them, but you have. Thank you good sir. Love the content! I always look forward to watching Trogly when I get home from work. Rock on brother.

You should come and check out my collection video that I recently uploaded. I have a total of 76 Epiphone's and also a lot of other guitars. I'm also a huge Epiphone lover and I also own a few Gibsons. But honestly, the quality control of the later Gibsons has let me down a lot of times lately. So, I'm sticking to Epiphone. Preferably the older (Korean) ones! Greetings from The Netherlands!

Tony Mottola was an easy listening picker, a few notches below Chet Atkins, but still kind of a big deal from the mid 1960s to the late 1970s. That's quite a collection there, ALWAYAS good to see a Tenor, that's not my cheapo Martin copy.

Know your heraldry. That headstock was a coat of arms with a crest. The knight and castle is the crest. Below that is the coat of arms. The coat of arms was often displayed on shields and other items. A minor piece of information but your description did bother me. Sorry.

Those were really special soldiers. I really like your Crest. 🙄 Have you ever gone thru that on the show? I'd like a run thru of that.
Have they ever made a Birdland looking guitar with the Florentine cutaway but with a center block like a 335 so it didn’t feed back so much and may be a longer scale of the short scale that I would love to have one of those maybe in white

It looked like there was a slight dip on the frets below each string on his guitar. Was that something he had done at the factory? Or by a luthier? Or did it occur naturally? If it didn't happen through playing what was his idea for having it done?
@wiseguy92027 ай бұрын
@@gibgibGG To be honest, I just knew him. He had many guitars so I'm not super familiar with the details of this particular one. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had paid more attention to this type of stuff.

Anybody know what Jan Ackermann is playing with Focus on the famous Midnight Special episode? At first glance, it looks like an LP, but on closer examination, I don't think it is.
@russellmorgan56117 ай бұрын
@RoboSteave. That was originally a LP Personal. According to biog i read, the guitar was damaged in a car accident and Akkerman had it stripped back, a new maple cap and conventional hardware. I even went to Gibson Memphis while on vacation there, they told me Gibson never made a model like that, it must be a custom build. Hope that helps.
@RoboSteave7 ай бұрын
@@russellmorgan5611 Thanks so much. Yes, that really helped. It checks out. What was throwing me was that the fretboard ended in an angle. That and the shape of the horn. Looked at the Personal model and saw both of those. Thanks again.
