I wonder if one could use this with advanced rotors somehow to create a conveyor system for spaced armor, you know these neat looking angled ship armors on hinges overlaping armors sections below. Only issue i had with those is that you weren't able to funnel conveyos through. Then again, wasn't there an update a while back that made hinges able to be part of the conveyor network. Haven't played for a while .. .

So, tried using some of these ideas to work on my own suspension. First, I tried using the trick to attach a rotor head to a suspension, then attach a second suspension to that to get more travel distance. And while the rotor head does attach to the suspension just fine, the moment I try to attach a second suspension to the same subgrid anywhere, one of them seems to separate from it's rotor head and moves to face the other suspension, acting like it's stuck to the same rotor head almost. Next I tried using a double boom-arm using hinges, with a 1x1 suspension on top of them to act as a spring. And while this works to an extent, it ends up being too weak and too fragile to support any real weight. The least little impact seems to destroy it, even when using heavy armor. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but any suspension I try just ends up being too fragile to be useful.

My biggest issue when trying to replicate your design from the first video before this is that once I put any weight up on the rover, it's difficult to keep it from having issues with lateral roll. The rovers I built on stream tended to roll so hard during turns that it would want to flip and also at speed it would tend to pull left or right. Worked amazing going over rough terrian.
@quantumchief Жыл бұрын
yea, the suspension designs are good for the off-road capabilities however at speed they are questionable, If you saw right at the end of the video i showed a new suspension design. it has almost no issues with rolling whilst still offering good suspension.
@theubie Жыл бұрын
@@quantumchief I did see that. Looks promising. Any luck with dealing with the sway. Back to the complex suspension...I think I'm going to try an idea of putting all the axel rotors on a group and locking them when moving at speed, and unlocking them to deal with terrain. We'll see how that goes on today's stream.
@theubie Жыл бұрын
@@quantumchief So, I decided to put all the rotors for the axels in a group. Locking them when on even ground works perfect for fixing the stability at speed. Unlock them for terrain issues. Now if there was just an easy way to force rotors to 0 out without having to run additional scripts, but as long as you're close to flat it fixes all my pulling and rolling issues. I flirted with the idea of switching the last two blocks on the armature to merge blocks but we're already tempting klang as it is with this design!

For anyone on console there is a workaround of using the overrides in the hot bar but that is the only workaround unless you are on a server that has scripts turned on
@zacharywilder140 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or the game doesn't allow me to do this anymore however, trying to build this in survival mode is a lot more difficult #1 because to move the rotors you have to turn one one way and turn the other in the opposite direction because they are mirrored. #2 when you turn the rotors to place the 1x1 suspension, there still isn't enough clearance for the wheel to spawn. I have maxed the rotors turned all the way to where I can't turn them anymore because it's hitting the 5x5 suspension and it still won't let me place the wheel. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, either way, cool build and thanks. I'm still a beginner as well, still learning.
@quantumchief Жыл бұрын
In some cases I had to place the wheel suspension first before almost any other blocks after that is done I can refine the design
@comensee24617 ай бұрын
I'm trying to understand the actual benefit of a custom suspensions over a regular one. I've built a couple of different variations of custom suspensions including the ones here. The main issue is when you add more weight to the vehicle it puts more pressure on the hinges, pistons, and rotors which requires more torque to counter which can start clanging issues. Also, you need a script to manage the subgrid wheels, and some of them like DriverAssist require you to put a remote control on each of the wheels.

its more or less just for the fun. one its a challenge to build and 2 when done right its satisfying to watch it as it flexes over the dunes

For the 3 wide design it looks like the design is very different. I’m not sure how to explain it tho. I tried recreating it and it doesn’t work. My one wide works fine. It almost looks like the original concept of connecting the two rotors isn’t the case with the wider one. It looks like one rotor is connected to the “hinged” arm and the other rotor connects to the wheels. Am I wrong? Edit: I tried Messing around and did just one rotor, put half slabs under the 1x1 wheels, and lowered the 1x1 wheels until the touched the slabs. Seems to work now

@Captain_Jelly Жыл бұрын
I used this to make a rover for a race, but I forgot that multiplayer games don't like complex things and the wheels used in the suspension just phased through the blocks and locked up the whole thing, so now I had to replace the whole rig with a normal wheel base XD. Great for solo though

While you explained the how perfectly, the why is a bit elusive to me. I haven't built any suspensions myself sofar and while i get that these usually are to absorb impact, i wonder what the rotors are doing here. Is it to keep the chasis level to the center of gravity?
@quantumchief9 ай бұрын
Its to keep the wheels in contact with the floor as much as possible, if the wheels are not on the floor they dont aid in the vehicles movement
