@@jginmt 4) Garmin ambassador Mike Patey and “Scrappy.” Be one of the first to see Mike Patey’s latest creation, “Scrappy.” Based on the popular Cub Crafters Carbon Cub airframe, Patey and his team enlarged the fuselage, beefed up the frame, installed a massive 780 cubic-inch piston engine and added plenty of custom features. And naturally, we’re partial to the panel. Our Team X group of pilots and experimental engineers worked with Mike to develop a unique Garmin panel for “Scrappy.” Mike will be spending time at our exhibit with “Scrappy” answering your questions, taking pictures and signing autographs. You won’t want to miss it.

Not as incredible as one might think. It is an old, tried and tested invention. The DHC2 Beaver has been using flaperons since its first flight in 1947. btw the Ju-87 Stuka already used slotted ailerons, that while not real flaperons, did help low-speed characteristics a lot.

Been using flaperons on model planes for 30+ years
@429thunderjet2
@429thunderjet2 3 жыл бұрын
@@mrbmp09 yes but these aren't usually what we think of as flaperons are they? Because the drooping ailerons are separate from the actual flaps. When thinking of flaperons I envision one piece, narrow corded, pretty much full length of the wing, mounted slightly below and trailing the wing trailing edge. Like the German storch, kitfox, zenith 701-801 etc. While they provide excellent roll authority otherwise, flaperons at anywhere near full flap setting lose a lot of roll authority. So in a stiff crosswind you can't use much flap deflection. That's why Mike elected not to use flaperons I think. 🤔

@@kittyhawk3831 I certainly hope so! He is scheduled to be at the Garmin booth, along with Flight Chops (Steve Thorne) and Steve's new RV-14. Since today is July 21st and it starts on the 26th, AND he has his AW Certificate (which means the airplane has been flying already and the FAA has sent out an inspector to look it over), I would assume that barring some seriously unforeseen circumstance (which wouldn't have to do with the airplane), he will be at Air Venture.
