That is a ferrite bead on the cord. It eliminates any high frequency interference or noise in the system. In the case where the turntable is plugged in, it can also prevent the power cord from acting as an antenna and receiving electronic interference from other electronic devices in the home.

not sure if someone already commented this but in the holes in the middle of a record can differ in size. if you have a record player that only has the bigger size and you would put a record on It with a smaller you could but getting it off is a different story.

Do you want to know how i made many year ago my own DIY turntable ..The shaft was a brand new chevrolet or so engine valve i bought also a valve guide to rotate the platter that was attached or welded to the valve .. Now the platter was also another great idea ..Staying always with car parts i discovered this brake rotor at some Goodwill .Dont ask from what car !.It was brand new or remanufactered .. It had the right size and it was heavy and perfect!

Very good job my friend! Congrats! I'm thinking on doing a project like this. I already have all the parts but there's something that I don't have very clear, which must be the distance between the center of the plate and the tonearm pivot shaft according to the tonearm size??

I think your project turntable build is pretty cool! At least if you build it you can eliminate any resonance issues while building it. I've done plenty of mods on my turntables over the years and wished I could build my own, but I'm fairly happy with what I have.

I am aiming on a DIY turntable project myself; but I am at a standstill. It is certainly NOT going to be as sophisticated, and less than the one you built. I have an Audio Technica AT95E phono cartridge from ebay; and I purchased very recently a Sony tonearm with cable, may also get a Sony platter from ebay, Canada. I'm going to solder the wires from the tonearm to the RCA cables. I wrote to a seller about maybe purchasing a Rega plinth; because it appears to have holes for the motor, platter, tonearm in all the EXACT LOCATIONS. I'm not certain, I was originally thinking of building with an MDF board, Masonite, and oak wood that I have for the plinth, base of the turntable. May also get a Project 60Hz motor pulley that has the 33.33, and 45 RPM speeds; more money to spend is a disadvantage for me. I've bought a harman kardon T25 from ebay, that I adjusted, and installed a new AT71 stylus. However, it is a challenge to make a turntable by myself as I have been wanting to do so for a long time. Furthermore, this Sony tonearm appears high performance, excellent condition, even though it does not have anti-skating adjustment. Also, instead of a wall outlet for power to the motor I was thinking of connecting the motor to a battery, or combination switch, and 9 volt battery. At first I was planning on disassembling my old Kenwood KD-26R from 1987 with an upgraded Stanton cartridge; then using the motor, platter, and putting everything together on an MDF board. Then I later did not take into account about the platter bearing! Anyhow, I wrote long explanations like the one I've posted here to ebay sellers, and some have given approval to my plans; and that the parts are going to fit. However, I am not very certain. What is your expert, experienced advice? Should I take a couple of things apart, and use the platter bearing as well, or buy most or all separate parts to make a Rega style record player? Thank you for your time. Also, I gave you a thumbs up on this detailed demonstration video.

Do you think building a turntable is feasible for an amateur? I have decent knowledge and skills with hand tools but virtually no knowledge in regards to turntables. I was wondering if it's more cost effective for me to attempt to build my own and worthwhile in terms of difficulty.

How did you get the motor to spin at the right speed? Also, did you get the sub plater and spindle/bearing just from a TT manufacturer, or is there someone making those just for DIY TT builders?

It's a special motor with a resistor. I hired a custom turntable builder to make the sub plater and bearing.

@goldenvinylspin thank you very much for the information. I have a mill and a lathe and can make everything except the motor and cartridge. The cartridges are quite easy to find, but nobody really advertises for turntable motors. Anytime I went looking for one, all I would end up finding was motors for microwave oven turntables. Thanks again.

That's just the start my friend though. You need to put Resistors on the motor or you'll have a record flying off your table. Good luck on you build. I'll share more information in a future video so that everyone has this knowledge because I get asked alot.
