thanks for sharing! I went ga-ga for vans back in the day! I actually traded a beautiful '69 firebird for a '72 Econoline (derr!) Had it custom painted, teardrop porthole windows, craiger's , Capitan chairs, bed, etc. Then had to get something more practical for the new baby (derr!!) That old 302 got great mpg's too! Those west the best of times! Now I'm missing my old van and my firebird :(

Many memories of my next door neighbor and her big Orange van and orange shag carpet from ceiling to floor, the bed in back was covered in the shag carpet that opened on each side. We would hear that Woman with the Red fro coming a mile away with speakers blasting to Steeley Dan. Oh the memories!!! Brightmoore, Detroit!!

I remember in the late 70s they used to call those Van Happenings in Socal. Two van clubs in Socal one was Mid-Evil Van's and Unique Van's. I'd go with my parents. They had bands lots of partying but I was only ten but still fun

I love vans because I don't need anything more. I prefer to use a toilet and shower at a truck stop or a luxury camp site, or go to a lake. I don't like carrying my toilet or any plumbing with me. This was a cool video.

It became more practical to own a high mileage Honda civic than a gas guzzling van...and I went into the military and did not want to get a dishonorable discharge, so I quit smoking pot for that decade and several after because in the nineties every job wanted to drug test. But then I retired in 2000 and everyday became a Saturday...I took trips to Jamaica and Thailand were I smoke enough weed to make up for those lost years. I smoked so much from 2000 to 2020 that I can't even get a buzz any longer.

back in '77 my soon to be brother in law had a "74"? chevy van all decked out with the carpet and bed and all he sold it when he married my sister..i remember it had a painting on both sides towards the upper rear part of cactus and desert scenery and it had 2 or 3 air horns mounted over the drivers cab, it was also a column shift 3 speed..i wonder if its still around after 44 years?

being 75 years old i remember this era and had a nice custom job and more vans than i have fingers, when i can afford another one that is what i will acquire just like the old days, new cars blahhhh toooooooooooo much electronic bullshit on them for me to work on, i did much of my own work on the vans and painted them also. dupont had a translucent paint that i would put over a base coat of silver and many though my vans had candy apple paint jobs,

I grew up in the air when those vans were popular And those vans might have cost $15000 brand new and sometimes I might have a $150000 worth of work done to them by some vain customizing shop in Hampton Virginia we always had to Van house and they're still around today but the mostly sell mobility scooters in the 21st century but back in the seventies and eighties custom Van's were all about them

Had a custom van back in the late 70's called "Country Comforts." Won several awards, including two "Best in Show." Utter chick magnet. Recently tried to buy another van with the idea of customizing it, but not a single dealer could find one to even order - and I'm not willing to put all that time and money into a unknown used van.

That van has got to stay running long enough to justify the expense. Probably spend more on trying to fix a used van than customizing it. Like I said, I'm just not willing to do that.
