Custom Wood Baby Gate - DIY Build

I built this custom baby safety gate as an alternative to commercial gates available. The gate is custom built to match the style and appearance of the existing stair railing for a seamless look. It features a secret gate latch and attaches to the newel post without drilling or screwing into the post itself.

The gate itself looks great but should be installed to swing the other way. Your gate should not swing onto the stairs for safety reasons.

Nice job , I’m going to give it a try , apart from the clamps on the post . Four screw holes from a hinge is no big deal to fill in later when the gate is taken off ? Thanks for the inspiration 👍

Not at all. I already had all the lumber so don’t have a cost for that. Aside from that the costs were somewhere around $100 for the hinges, latch and finish. Really not too bad imo.

Do you make them to sell? My door is only 24 inches wide! So I'm having lots of trouble finding a baby gate. 😓
