I've been watching your videos for at least 7 years now, and man, you have taught me a lot! Your ethics and consideration for every detail are uncanny! If I may, I would say that you are 9.5 out of 10 when it comes to diagnosis, but for a master such as yourself, I would rate your soldering skills 6 out of 10. You're still the myth, the man a legend, though! 😄

Your vids are my little guilty pleasure. I've been doing board repairs at work, and over the years I've figured out various thermal-camera-less tricks to track down shorts on multilayer boards. But a thermal camera - thanks to your various thermal vids - turns out to make life 5x easier. The air temperature and flow manipulation was also what I lacked skill with, so you've helped me a lot just by narrating how you set your air pencil. I have a crusty Hakko 851 but it does the job and is very dependable. It has different scales and whatnot, but your approach gave me a general idea what to steer towards.

Anyone laughing because you did not get the component on exactly right the first time has clearly never micro soldered before and is not worth the time. I have said it before Jason but you make this look to easy, I would have screwed up that little jumper wire so many times trying to make it look perfect and in turn making it look worse 😄 Heck even scraping out around that tiny little via was extremely skilful, so easy to scrape to deep into another layer or trace. Do you think at 11:19 maybe the wire broke off the via at that point? Just a guess from the way it moved but I have never worked with this thin of wire before.
@ststele Жыл бұрын
Lol! Ok that was a good trick comment. Read the first part first and was all ready to be offended 😂 I think I may have broke the wire inside of its enamel coating but it could have came loose from the via. Also, since I never actually checked it, it could have been broken further in the board. Likely just my wire broken or came loose tho. :-). Thank you for the good comment and kind words! 🙂

Good work on that small wire jump. But I do have to ask why you didn’t check that test point next to the UV masking you did. Visually it looked like the trace went directly to that same wire jumper point you soldered. If it did, wouldn’t that have been easier to solder a jumper wire to that test pad?
@ststele Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'll have to go back and check the video or look at the next SE that comes in. The board view shows that test point is for a different line though. That's why I didn't check it. :-) board views can be wrong tho.

what would happened if you just used this wire instead of a coil ?
@ststele Жыл бұрын
It would be completely ok. If that 5v7 line got shorted and there was enough supply current, instead of blowing the FL it would just melt the wire. I think the wire is rated for around the same current as that FL (although I’ve never checked!)
@ronlevin2339 Жыл бұрын

I have a question. I bought an iPhone 7. there I went to replace the dock connector. I have done this twice before. success. now my third time. I opened it and it turned out to be an iPhone 8. ??? the question is how can an iphone 8 work on an iphone 7 software. I can even charge it wirelessly???🤨
@bryzztortello Жыл бұрын
Now im confused was this an iPhone 7 or an SE3? I ask cuz you kept referring to your screem as an iPhone 7 and those arent cross compatible with the SE series.
@ststele Жыл бұрын
I use iPhone 7 screens to test iPhone 8 all the time (but don’t connect home button!!) and since 8 will cross with se (I think) I just assumed the 7 should get image. I know the frames are different though.

Hi, Jason. Merry Christmas to start with. Some cool things you do on your channel. I enjoy watching your contents. I recently pulled my drone apart, and on the camera connector, there is a component with markings LB5. I cannot find any info/seller on that component. If you ever come across anything like this, or could help in any way, I will subscribe to your channel. Thank you PS- I understand you are busy and don't have time, but if you can share any info I would appreciate it.
