To give a little reference. In California, sales tax is required by the state. Even for trade in, you’re not allowed to deduct from the original price so that way taxes are less or that the taxes just go away. We don’t like charging tax as we don’t benefit from it at all, we just follow the state law for sales tax. For any questions you can go to the CDTFA website

Thanks for the CDTFA website. @holygroundshop . According to that website & the IRS, A store credit is to be treated as Rebate. A rebate/store credit is NOT taxable. The argument is whether you are paying store credit or gift cards for customer's trade-ins. You guys as a shop need to make it clear when you were buying from us and how you are paying for our trade-ins. I think you guys knew pretty well what you are doing, since you are the ONLY sneaker shop that does this. God knows how many people were paid in invisible gift cards for their trade-in & left confused and taken advantage of. Nice try, But its still scammy behavior :)

i feel like a sign should be displayed to let customers know how their gift cards work, something along the lines of; "when you buy a gift card, you don't pay tax on it. But when you use it to buy something, the value of the card counts for tax. Gift cards aren't seen as discounts, they're like IOUs for credit"

Military blue is indeed one of the 4 OG colorways and this is actually the closest blue to the ‘89s, with the ‘12 actually being the weird one. Even the ‘06 is closer to the OG, just a bit of history. Love you guys and keep up the content!

No one is saying you shouldn't pay sale tax. The argument is really if your trade-ins are paid as a gift card or store credit. So, in the eye of a tax expert, the shop can do this? With no clarification sign, buy a customer's shoes with a gift card without giving a physical gift card. and have the costumer pay again using the invisible gift card on the new purchase? 🤨

The difference between Holy Ground and other shops is they charge taxes on the subtotal and then add store credit. Which is why I think they price their shoes cheaper than most stores. If they were to add the credit as a discount to bring subtotal down then the tax would be less or zeroed out depending on the credit available. The reason other shops can get away with no tax if paid cash is because they don’t run in through POS system, you won’t get a receipt, they manually remove the sku, and cash themselves out or add a discount that makes it appear like there’s no tax.

Andrew I would challenge you to actually look at the OG Military Blue 4. I believe at least from what I’ve seen that this retro is the closest to the OG. The main story I’m hearing is that the reason these are called “Industrial Blue” not “Military Blue” is because it’s offensive not because they want differentiate between this as it’s own release. Also, The 4s are the same cut just not the same materials. Probably more comfortable because the insole is different and material is different.

Yes you can come in and collect tax as a business. You would have to then collect it and then make payments to the IRS for all the tax you collect. We do allow people with a sellers permit come in and waive taxes as they take on the responsibility to charge sales tax on the items we sold them (wholesale). It just makes it easier for customers to usually not collect tax to not deal with the headache of tax payments and etc.

These are close to the original. The last release of the military blue’s were not the same color or shape as the original release. We ask for as close to original and when Nike obliges we are upset. 😂 the real reason this happens is due to the different age demographics in sneakers.
