Occam's Razor. The second the missing tax on the invoice for parts was highlighted, it became obvious. Someone at Toyota HB is committing fraud and likely taking kickbacks for it. $630 for a $54 coilpack proves it

extended warranty companies have given me trouble before with not wanting to authorize what was recommended but instead pick and choose what theyll pay for and often require tear down before approving work and deciding what they’ll approve when its an internal engine issue. but in this case it seems like something shady is going on with the dealership itself
@N1sm0NIC

Working at a dealer, specifically parts, sometimes the warranty companies will deny any job that would be done right and pick and choose ONLY what needs to be replaced. And that checks out with the "only replaced one head and head gasket on one side" part. However, the coils and plugs is definitely some shady shit going down. The fact there's no tax is the biggest red flag

The only way to sift through the shit is to know the bare minimum of what it takes to keep a vehicle running and not let a sales rep/mechanic intimidate you when they are aaked questions.

The owner bought a stellantis with 150000 miles for $15000 and paid $4000 for an extended warranty that lasted 30000 miles. Let’s be honest, they got what they deserved considering how little research they must have done. How this guy was able to pay cash, considering how financially irresponsible this car was, is beyond me.

A lot of dealerships suck, and so do mechanics partnered with them. I had a turbo issue (obd reader picked up turbo sensor error codes) Went to a dealership, they changed all four of my injectors for some f* reason, car had the same problems. Went to a second one for a quote and they wanted a 150$ fee to “diagnose the issue” and then “at least 500$ to take down the turbo and service it”. Told them no. went to an indipendent mechanic, the issue was a small tube under the engine, the turbo vacuum pressure depression tube. It had a tear in it. Fixed it in no time

Not all of us are horrible and from my experience independent shops are iffy as well. Its a problem with the whole industry. I bought a used 2012 dodge Durango, only had 105,000 miles on it. Was shown the carfax from the used car dealer but it never showed flood damage. Ended up going month by month having to get my transmission replaced. And always went through the “extended warranty” only to be told they weren’t going to cover the 3rd transmission. Was able to get a second opinion done and found out my ECU and TCU were completely fried. The TCU kept frying the transmission

Fix it and sell it asap. I had a 2015 Grand Cherokee 3.6 V6 with misfire issues and no check engine light. Replaced all spark plugs and the ignition coil for cylinder 3. That fixed the misfires, but then I heard the infamous pentistar tick, this means that the needle bearing for 1 or more rockers had failed. This means that it likely chewed into my intake or exhaust cam. At this point the car was running well enough with no check engine lights. I sold that thing so fast. Oh and this all happened at 85,000 miles with an engine that was maintained regularly.

The shitty thing is that the third party warranty is gonna insist he go back to the shop that did the work. My company requires a minimum 12/12 warranty on all parts and labor and we will always hold that shop responsible, because we don't like paying for things twice. Although, them screwing the company over so bad may change that. I would have the customer call into the customer service line, explain your findings, and have THEM advise on what needs to be done. This should've had an engine replaced from the beginning. Anything 90k and over will automatically get an engine with my company, since it's ALWAYS cheaper to R&R the engine vs rebuilding it. Plus, there's less liability/room for error.

Also if the shop installed a Mopar reman head they come with spark plugs in that head. Maybe they were changing the spark plugs on the left side. Also we have seen the high lift cam lobes fail from a bad rocker arm roller. On the 3.6 pentastar engine 1,3,5 is on the left side.

My recent Toyota issue was my keyless entry not working. Their first solution was 2 new remotes; as if they failed both at the same time. The car would start by holding the fob to the start button; so the keys were fine. They kept my car for 3 days, testing all sorts of dumb stuff, like throwing water over the car, changing door handles (wth?), and then ultimately they wanted to change the entire computer. I told them several times it was very likely the receiver in the car; everything works except the car not receiving signals. They even went ahead and replaced the keys, which was a pain to program cause the car barely received signals. Well d'oh. So I went to a scrapyard, took the receiver from a similar car and plugged it in; everything back to normal. It took me less than an hour to remove the panels and test the receiver, including the 45 minute drive to the scrapyard. They had it for 3 days and wanted to replace the entire car but the receiver. I've never had a Toyota mechanic solve a problem. They have their checklist, if it's not on there they'll never know. Even if you tell them.

I work as a service advisor at a VW dealership and this sounds like straight up warranty fraud. Weve gotten a few customers in the past with similar stories that finally just come to us cause the ford or Subaru dealer they bought a used VW and extended warranty from has had their car 6 times in the last 3 months and it still isnt fixed, but when i look at the paper work, just like this jeep in the video, NOTHING adds up or makes sense. Thousands of dollars in "wire repairs" or "engine overhaul" or whatever BS they come up with and the car is just straight up broken. The other thing we see a lot is dealers (including some other VW dealers) trying to use the TDI (dieselgate) warranty extension to cover things that arent covered or in a couple rare cases things that they broke or replaced without needing to and they dont want to take the loss. Shits wild.

After a certain amount of money is spent on the vehicle an aftermarket warranty will step in and try to buy the customer out there vehicle to crap it. At the end of the day the warranty company is there to make money, they don’t pay mark up labor or mark up parts pricing. Seen it in the dealership world why keep fixing a car that keeps breaking, it’s cheaper to scrap it and pay out the customer. The only warranties that almost never give up are the factory lifetime original owner warranties, they only give way when parts start get discontinued then they start buying one out of the vehicle.

It should be pointed out that all this BS was done by the service department of a dealership. It's not Toyota itself. F the dealerships.

Doesn’t Toyota have the right to discontinue the relationship? They issue the license for them to sell their products and provide warranty services.
@Spectre94951

@@russbusss Not entirely sure, but I would assume so. It is their product and reputation being put on the line.
@russbusss

@@Spectre94951 yeah there are standards and policies that they have to abide by in order to do so. I’m not familiar with Toyota but every dealership I’ve worked at, the manufacturer has the right to pull the license if they’re getting too many complaints, they can also audit the books

My only issue with this video is when discussing the oil change that the dealership used 0 winter 20 instead of 5 winter 20. It's the same weight better temperature for colder climates.

I know 2 service managers at 2 different dealerships and they don't know each other and both have told me you never take your vehicle to a dealership for repairs unless it's warranty work.

Jesus!! What a incompetent shop! And they kept going back, I guess cause of the warranty, but sheesh. Surprised they didn't fill it with diesel fuel and charge him $550, and a core charge for the fuel

Not all dealerships are like this, i work at Volvo and all of our mechanics there are honest and make sure we get the job done right and correct the 1st time. It's a problem in the whole industry. There's too many scam places that ruin it for us :(

New car at a heavy discounted price. Sure he has payments but he also gets a new one. 170k miles he was gonna need a new one soon enough anyways. But now they can discount him in a way that saves both of them time. This happened to me once and I talked to the owner of the dealership and got a brand new car for hella discounted

I went to the KIA dealership for recalls. When I came back to pick up the car, they told me I had to pay them for the diagnostic fee. I raised hell in there. I asked to speak to their manager. After I did all of this, they came back to me, telling me we approved your other Recall, and you won't be charged anymore. So, if I didn't say anything, they wouldn't tell me about the recall approval, and they would have charged me a few hundred bucks.
