To everyone talking about the meaning behind this sketch, let me summarize it for you - the manufacture sold James a faulty product, and then persuaded him to not exercise his legal right for a replacement through guilt tripping. This is like you signing a contract to buy a two story house from me, but I built you a shed, and when you ask for a refund I tell you "you know a lot of people are homeless". This isn't a sketch about petty first world problems, it's about consumer fraud.

@Machtyn
@Machtyn 5 жыл бұрын
@@matthewa.whiting719 Point is, yes, it's a joke, but it's trying to make one feel guilty for one's position in life. It's such backward thinking. And, no, I'm not wealthy or privileged compared to the many. But I'm not poor, either. But if I was poor, in the bottom 10% in the USA, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Switzerland, Britain, Poland, or Japan, I'd still be in the top 40% of the world. In fact, you'd be living better than 90% of the people in Russia, Portugal, Brazil, Turkey and Mexico, to name a few (using statistics by OECD as reported by The Economist in 2013). Again, not something to feel guilty about.

I can do that too, let's take a look at your yearly profit margin, oh nice lots of money, I'm sure that most of it goes to starving children then? In fact, why don't you give money that you yourself earn and give it all to charity for the homeless? I'm sure you have plenty of stuff to be comfortable. This is so true! Way to go Studio C!!! Love how you shared a hidden message about world problems in engaging comedy.
@shadamyandsonamylover

CraftyGirlME I mean, in a first world country though you’re going to have first world problems. The sketch was funny but a broken refrigerator spilling ice onto the wood floor is bad. That ice will melt and damage the wood if no ones around to pick it up...so then he would have a major house problem and not just a refrigerator problem.
@hail_flower
@hail_flower 5 жыл бұрын
I respect that, but house problems are still not nearly as bad as starving to death in a straw hut.
@shadamyandsonamylover
@shadamyandsonamylover 5 жыл бұрын
CraftyGirlME people’s struggles aren’t comparable to other people’s tho. Someone’s damaged house costing thousands of dollars could affect their life in a way that people starving in a straw hut wouldn’t know. The two issues are equally valid - but in completely different ways. If those third world people moved to a first world country and had first world problems it would be just as wrong to brush it aside and say “oh you had it so much worse before, stop complaining.” I understand the reason people brush off first world problems, but the mentality that your struggles are worth less because someone has it comparatively worse is a fallacy and causes way more emotional damage than one might think. Sorry tho. I’m not really trying to be argumentative or anything. It’s just this mindset really bothers me.

@@hail_flower Why would you compare apples to oranges? If someone has enough money to buy a refrigerator, and it is broken, then they need it fixed. Why the frick does it matter what someone else around the world is facing? Is you not getting your refrigerator fixed somehow helping them? And to give someone crap for worrying about their problems, no matter how small, just because someone on the other side of the planet who you have no influence on is starving is just asinine. Just because someone has bigger problems than you, doesn't mean that your problems are negated.

Yeah, to be honest, I think of Natalie as much more "villain" than "hero" of this sketch. Nothing better than people guilt-tripping you everywhere you look. I think any positive message is kind of lost in Natalie's uber-annoying demeanor. Guess it's good if you can sift through the annoyingness to find the good message, though. And it is a funny sketch.
