A biased party cannot be the one to provide a valuation. If it goes to court, in addition to the cost of the vehicle there will also be damages awarded related to inconvenience, distress, admin, and legal fees. The shop messed up about as badly as it is possible to, so the least they could do is get an agreed, professional, third-party valuation rather than pulling figures out of their backside.

When I was replacing my old front struts for my car for entry level coilovers from ST's, I just bought brand new top mounts for it anyways because of that shit. Springs under massive amount of tensions under pressure is something that you should never be messing with unless you're a professional. I can see people easily lose their fingers or having a internal blood injury inside their body if that spring just launched right into them at full speed. Not worth it.

Thats not the issue here. She went to a safety inspection garage, not a repair garage. Inspection places are often not allowed to fix your car, as it would be a conflict of interest

Ran out of engine oil completely on a high mileage Ford and it seized. In the two hours it took waiting for a tow I filled it up and it started when cool with no further problems. Had a Peugeot in with owner complaining of gearbox noise. Seal had been leaking for a long time and completely empty of oil. Filled it up and it was perfect; no noise and smooth changes. Another Peugeot in for routine service and went to adjust mixture only to find there were no fixings on the carb, and yet it was running perfectly. Amazing how much abuse engines can endure and still run.

If you want to see if a car overheats, turn it on and wait like 5 minutes more or less, watch the heat gauge, if it starts to go past the middle and steadily climbs, it'll probably overheat.
