Customer states My frame looks like the Titanic 😳

Hey guys, this has to me the lowest mileage vehicle needing a frame. Not sure if they live by the beach, at the beach, or in the beach. Either way, I can tell you which side of this vehicle faces the ocean. Enjoy!

What is sad is Toyota would have replaced the frame up to 2016 for free. My 05 had a new frame in 2016 , was like a new truck.

By the way, Mr. CSW works in a dealerships in eastern Massachusetts near the salt water shore and bay areas. Still it looks like the passenger's side especially has been a vat of pickle brine.

I had a '59 Studebaker that sat in a field for years. The floorboards were rusted out (Fred Flintstone special). But the frame was in surprisingly good shape. Of course the frame on that car was probably made from an I-beam. 🙂

To answer your question, no I have not fisted a frame before because I live in North Central Texas, where it’s salt free. Now if I lived near the Gulf Coast, then it would be different.

This is probably a neive question from the UK, but do dealers not add some form of wax oil type rustproofing at point of sale? It might not stop all the rusting but would help slow it down.

Most dealers offer it but it's way overpriced so people decline it

Fluid Film is one of those waxy oils. Wool wax is another. They both provide minimal protection and would need to be applied 3 or more times a year. The main problem is that salt initiates the corrosion in the winter. The following summer when heat and humidity push the corrosion into overdrive is when the damage really takes hold. "Rust" really occurs in the summer much more than in the winter. It is the misuse of salt that seems to be the root of the problem.

There are some places in the salt belt. North East USA that offer fluid film and spray the car. Doing it new will protect most of it. South main auto recommends a place on his you tube page.

@@tucobenedicto109 If you drive in the winter your car would need to be in a heated garage, completely flushed and fluid filmed all winter. I am a mechanic myself and SMA is ok but does not have some magic fix for corrosion.

I wonder, what’s the point of buying a vehicle that is not going to be used? I wonder, why keep a vehicle that’s a garage queen or lawn ornament? Sales tax, insurance, registration, servicing , etc to drive about 150 miles a month? This car is a total loss.
