I say lethal ignorance, but because you can't live in those vehicles when you turn very old, you've no equity, you're homeless... we could had done the same, but why we didn't ,and instead built our credit with sacrifice & purchased a 250k property? because the property will back us up when we needed the most.. it's ok for camping but as a primary residence isn't even legal if you've children. at least buy a piece of land to leave it permanently when driving isn't an option... but still and all bad idea, and a waste of money... 4:14: Any business that blames its shoddy work on another party is an immediate red flag because the very idea is for a business to have control over its choice of contractors. In addition, the idea of someone having a business is that they will be their own everything --- not contract the work out to a bunch of multiple parties.
@twally872 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't agree with your last statement. Not every business has to be 100% vertically integrated. However, depending on your written agreements with a third party to procure material and services, that third party may be held liable for contractually negligent work. The principal contractor-- the "schoolie renovation" business in this case-- has the duty to ensure their contracts appropriately manage liabilities. If the business owner weren't a complete fraud-- which, he is-- his contracts with these blamed third parties would have his wronged customers made whole, unless he decided to bear the risk of those contractors himself.

My BS radar would’ve been going off if someone told me a school bus conversion could be done in 6 to 8 weeks… From my 20 years in construction/electrical, van and trailer building experience, raising a bus roof and up fitting it for a full-time living would take one man about a full year to do if you are building it properly.. Sad there are so many conmen out there; I feel bad for everyone who has had their future dreams wrecked by such people!

All I can say is, build one, live in it for at least a couple months yourself, and if it's viable, sell it. then do that at least 3 more times. You should have most of the major bugs worked out. Don't take people's money before a build, and don't do "custom" builds. Build the same thing every time, so you get good at it. If what you have isn't what people want, then they're not your customer. Accept you can't sell to everyone, only sell to ones that want what you make and how you make it, and everyone will be happier in the end.

To keep face, the busses he has promised to complete, he shld be either inviting them to visit regularly in production stages to show things are actually being completed, or offer photos to show stage. If he won’t - a judge should order it, so he can’t keep stringing clients a long. Once a client has lost trust in their contractor, of course they are going to be irate and skeptical.

This is why you have to be super careful with who you send off your stuff too, even if it isn’t something as expensive as a bus. I’m big into the knife community, and a big then with that is sharpening/repair services that have obviously been done by someone who doesn’t truly know what they are working on. People will do whatever they can to make a quick buck, even if it screws others over.

This is what happens when young people have money before skills, the story may be very different but from the feel I got, he had a vision and bank account. He probably hired individuals to do the work for him and acted more as a facilitator bringing parts together to try to do complete builds and it got out of hand. If he had the skills needed he could look over everything himself, but I have a feeling alot is missing to have a good functional business. Hard to tell with limited info though.
@mvjr77582 жыл бұрын
Have to agree, hes like a facilitator. Just go out & hire up cheap labor & collect the sales at end. Story was scary because mix match parts / wiring and stuff not secured. I would think, an inspector should have to look over the work too.

Just because someone says they can do something it doesn't mean they can! Do your homework before you hand over your money to a stranger. If the 20 people who were taken in had looked online for reviews, they may have saved themselves the troubles.
@thomasmoser73822 жыл бұрын
you just gotta love people that think "oh i just throw a ton of money at it and get my bus build by someone else", these kind of people end up hopelessly lost on the side of the road because their bus broke down in the middle of nowhere (wich is going to happen sooner or later) and they have no clue how to fix it. if you want to live such a lifestyle you better learn quick how to do things on your own. you might think i'm a bad person for saying this but i'm glad that not everyone can just buy themselfs in without doing actual work on their bus themselfs.

That type of build should fall under the state building contractors board; at least here in our state they have to have a license, post a $100,000 bond and customers can file complaints directly with the contractors board. This is ridiculous though, people that do conversions do it to save money and usually can't afford $100,000 conversions. If you have that kind of money don't be stupid with it, you could buy an amazing RV better than a house with that type of money and have more room than the bus and less of a hassle.
