Those tanks are iconic for the history that they represent. They are the perfect tank for a Hot Rid fuel tank. What most people don't know is that at the Boeing plant in Renton Washington on their Gemcore machines they still use them as oil recovery tanks. Keep hot rodding alive

Those tanks look cool. I built my tank from a 50L 3I6 STAINLESS STEEL BEER KEG. Thats awesome work. Like that ultrasonic fuel sender idea. Used them a lot a large industrial tanks. Thank you for sharing...from South AFRICA

It definitely does- even welding you can feel the difference

You had the watershed moment to put the tanks in the lathe to mark them, so why didn't you just leave them there to cut them, Just put a cloth over the way bars to keep fine particles off, hold the grinder in place and spin the tank to cut thru. No fighting a round tank on a flat surface.

Gee wizz tell me this now. Haha- excellent idea for the future ones Dennis

@@dennissheridan1550 True true. This little task had me thinking of a fixture similar to a low tech motorcycle wheel balancer. Because you are right, making that cut on a flat surface or in a traditional bench vice is awkward

The use of airplane parts goes back to the start of hot rodding, along with the flathead. Everything sort of fits together. Kudos for saving the great finish on that tank. The vast majority of today’s builders would have polished that stainless to a mirror, forever losing that cool original finish. Great job.

Have seen a pair polished in the back of a gloss black model t track roadster. But this car has character. So they stay with the history it tells!

Craig has a very desirable car there especially with the Ardun heads it should be a real head turner when finished and as usual nice work on modifiying the tanks Jordan, I hadnt heard of those Holley laser senders before they sound like the perfect solution for modified or scratch built tanks where a lot of times you have to be satisfied with an accurate empty reading and a tank that stayed full for a long time before dropping. Cheers Greg

Hello Jordan. I’m thinking with the cut off ends, you could use a flywheel as a base a tie rod as a stand with the tank ends mounted on top. Then misses Bennett could fill them with her favourite trailing plants.( Happy girl happy life. ) I’ve got a couple of air tanks off of an hgv. I was thinking planters but now! A reserve tank in the boot. Or an additional tank for long drives. I’ve seen these tanks before and I think they was in Carl friths 33 gasser over here. I don’t no if you can get to see it but lots of air craft influence. Take care all the best. O it was pendine last weekend. The midnight special would have gone down a treat there. Cheers.

What's the quality of the stainless in those old tanks like? Is there a discernable difference between "then" and "now", or is stainless just stainless?
