This wins some kind of darwin award for "coming so far from Delphi 1.0 where most controls had ability to easily set their color, to the situation in 2019 where most common color settings in firemonkey mean you can't change the appearance without a few hours of deep struggle". Nicely done Embarcadero. The style book designer system is so opaque and brutal that even someone who has been using Delphi since version 1.0 still finds FMX horrible, irritating, and badly done.

Agree 100% ! I started with Delphi 3 and I loved it... but now...😱 - Can you change the background color of this component? - Um maybe, I can try, if you give me an hour or so.... 🤓 Customers are no longer important, I guess. Nicely done Embarcadero... PS: I don't recommend Delphi to other programmers anymore.

Hi Ray, This is very helpful. But I can't find one step. I'm trying to change the color of a radio button. I can't figure out how to get my new .png images into the bitmap links editor at the correct size. Also, once I put it in, I can't seem to reload another version with the same file name. After a number of tries, Delphi crashed with a "catatrophic failure" error. You make it look so easy, but somehow I must be missing a step or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using Delphi 10.3.3 Architect. I can right click on a TListView and select "Edit Custom Style" and it does bring up the style editor. The problem is that in the structure pane I see a list of all the basic styles, just not the one I am trying to create. I tried renaming the new style as ListViewStyle1, and I still do not see it in the list. I tried doing a typing search for it and had it DINGed when I typed the 1, indicating that it was not found. I tried closing the style editor, clicking Yes to apply changes, and going back into the style editor. My assumption was that this would register the new style so I could find it under the list. No such luck. Any help? Is there a guide to customizing the TListView component using the style editor?

Update: I changed the StyleName property to "ListViewStyle1". Only then did it create a separate object and have it in the list for me to be able to view and manipulate it. I will continue my efforts and add additional updates if needed.

Nice tutorial, but I mangaged to use the indicator on windows, but on Android it seems that the indicator spins behind the components (Listview on a tabcontrol). if i place it on a blank form i can see my custom image spinning. Can somebody eplain to me how to bring it to the front ?

FMX is clearly where Rapid Application Development came to die. RIP Delphi, it was nice knowing you [since version 1.0] What an absolute Dog's Dinner/Pig's Breakfast. Come back Borland, all is forgiven! 🤦♂
